Surface Library Gallery Group Exhibition
On Friday, Oct. 9, the Surface Library Gallery (845 Springs Fireplace Road, East Hampton, opposite the Pollock-Krasner House in the Springs District) will unveil new works created in-situ (on-site) by resident atelier artists: potter Bob Bachler and painter James Kennedy. In celebration, an opening reception for IN-SITU 2009 will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The exhibit will include ceramic, painting and sculptural works imbued with the resident artists' signature palette of tactile media. Touching is encouraged! Breaking the boundaries of the typical art gallery concept, Kennedy and Bachler formed Surface Library as their primary art studio and atelier, concentrating on work produced by both artists. Drawing heavily on the philosophy of the "arts and crafts movement," the goal of the atelier is to produce work that unites beauty, craftsmanship and utility. Rather than the conventional representation of diverse media, the focus will be on the work produced through resident artist collaboration. The emphasis will be on the production of "one of" art objects, ceramic pieces, paintings and furniture. The Gallery hours are Thursday to Sunday from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m., and by appointment. For more information, call 631-291-9061, e-mail at info@surfacelibrary.com or go to www.surfacelibrary.com.
