Surfrider Foundation Celebrates 25 Iconic Waves At Art For The The Oceans III

Art Available At Auction On Line

Southampton - In celebration of the Surfrider Foundation's 25th Anniversary Gala on Oct. 9, in California, the organization is hosting the third installment of its popular "Art For The Oceans" auction series.

Surfrider Foundation Board Member and former World Champion Shaun Tomson is co-curator of the event. To celebrate the organization's 25th Anniversary, Shaun chose 25 of the world's most iconic surf breaks, which would then be interpreted by 25 of the world's most renown contemporary artists. Tomson's picks include such legendary breaks as Pipeline, Rincon, Kirra, Teahupoo, Jaws and others. Not only are these waves considered surfing's crown jewels, many of them are also facing significant environmental threat.

Scott Hulet, Editor of The Surfer's Journal, and the curator for the Surfrider Foundation's initial "Art For The Oceans" hand-selected the artists and matched them to each wave. Hulet has secured a veritable "who's who" of contemporary artists, including Shepard Fairey, Barry McGee, Craig Stecyk III, Raymond Pettibon, Thomas Campbell and others.

"Art For The Oceans III captures the essence of 25 iconic waves," says Surfrider Foundation's CEO Jim Moriarty. "Never before has such a collection of one of the world's most ephemeral natural wonders come together in re-creations through the eyes of 25 renowned artists."

Hayground School’s Creative Orchestra Residency With Composer Bruce Wolosoff

Wed March 24
The Hayground School has begun the Creative Orchestra Residency with composer Bruce Wolosoff. The Creative Orchestra Residency, initiated by Wolosoff, was created by Hayground as one of the various ways to bring music into the classrooms and programs. Growing out of the Creative Orchestra's ongoing exploration of what stimulates musical ideas and inspiration, this season the members of the ensemble are composing music in response to short silent films. Most of the material is drawn from the early Gaumont classics from the turn of the last century as well as some of the more abstract experimental films from the Cinema Pur period of the 20s by filmmakers such as Man Ray. At the close of the residency, the Hayground Creative Orchestra will perform their scores live along with the films that inspired them at the Bay Street Theatre on Wednesday March 24th at 6:00 p.m.
