Local Artist's Work Accepted Into The Smithsonian
Michael Knigin, a NASA art team member has just returned from Washington, DC where he presented two commissioned works of art to the National Air and Space Museum. These montages on canvas, created from Knigin's own photographs, drawings and paintings, are the first digitally created artwork that has ever been accepted into the Museum's permanent collection.
61 Annual Artists & Writers Charity Softball Game

The Gallery Sag Harbor Celebrates Bay Street's Opening Of "Dames At Sea
The Gallery Sag Harbor (125 Main Street, Sag Harbor, 631-725-7707) will host a soiree buffet to celebrate the opening of "Dames at Sea" at Bay Street Theatre on Saturday, Aug. 15 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The show is running from Aug. 11 to Sept. 6 and can be seen Tuesday through Saturday at 8 p.m., Sunday at 7 p.m., Wednesday at 2 p.m., and Saturday at 4 p.m. Ticket prices range from $65 to $75 and can be purchased online (www.baystreet.org).

James and Bieundurry share their "making of" stories, portions of the three short films that accompany the exhibit installation, "The Apology" (It's Time) video produced by will.i.am of The Black Eyed Peas (based on PM Rudd's apology speech) as well as discuss the evolution of the exhibit's subtitle, "Reconciliation Through Art."

Two Events At Canio's Books
On Friday, Aug. 14 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Canio's Books (290 Main Street, Sag Harbor, 631-725-4926) will host a reception for artist
Stephanie Reit's latest exhibition, "Bits n' Pieces," a series of photograph and paper collages. Reit, starting with studio portraits from the early 20th century, creates collages at turns surreal and whimsical. The delicacy and mystery of the discarded portraits have long fascinated Reit, and the collages she creates are arresting small jewels that read like a poem or short story; the fragment of a life. Reit has exhibited her paintings, collages, and assemblages locally at
Guild Hall, Ashawagh Hall, and
Crazy Monkey Gallery, as well as other locales. The exhibition will be on view from Aug. 14 through Sept. 10. Then on Saturday, Aug. 15, at 5 p.m. Canio's Books present a reading by
Tom Healy from the book of poetry, "What the Right Hand Knows" published by Four Way Books. Healy will be introduced by the writer A.M. Homes. Coming from a background in the Chelsea art scene where he owned and operated a gallery for 15 years, Healy's first book has already garnered much praise from respected poets and writers.
The Second Annual Artist Secret Society Guerrilla Exhibition
Starting Wednesday Aug. 12 through Tuesday Aug. 18 the Artists Secret Society will have it's second annual guerrilla exhibition at Christy's Art Center (3 Madison Street, Sag Harbor, 631-725-0534). There will be an opening reception on Saturday, Aug. 15 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Paul Jenkins Lecture On Gutai Art
In a gallery talk at the
Pollock-Krasner House and Study Center (830 Springs-Fireplace Road, East Hampton, 631-324-4929) on Sunday, Aug. 16 at 5 p.m., the abstract painter
Paul Jenkins will discuss his association with the Japanese avant-garde art group known as Gutai, which was founded in Osaka in 1954 and was devoted to work that expressed the true nature of its materials. Admission to the gallery talk is free, no reservations required. The exhibition will remain on view through Oct. 17, after which it will travel to New Jersey City University.

Exhibition And Art Center Opening In Amagansett
Ocean View Art Center (551 Montauk Highway, Amagansett 631-466-4462) and landmark ACA Galleries of New York present a unique survey of the diverse activities of artist and architect
Jan Sawka. On view will be paintings and sculptures ranging from the 1980s until today by the artist, whose works are housed in over 60 museums around the world. Featured will be four UMU sculptures, light-filled artworks utilizing the newest in light and screen technology. Visual presentations will show Sawka's architectural and multi-media projects, both realized and in development. The show opens Aug. 15, at OVAC, with a reception from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Agathe Snow Solo Show At The Fireplace Project
