For more than two decades, The Watermill Center has hosted the International Summer Program led by Artistic Director Robert Wilson. Artists interested in joining the 2018 International Summer Program take notice, because the time to submit your application is now.
Be a part of a program that features up to 100 artists from over 30 countries at the magnificent eight-and-a-half acre site that provides an unparalleled platform for artistic collaboration, innovation, and creation.
Being a part of the International Summer Program at The Watermill Center means that you have the chance to receive access to extensive resources that are central to the Watermill experience. Those chosen will have daily meetings with Wilson, sit in on lectures on theater and opera innovation, installation, design, and science, and have the opportunity to propose and develop new work for public presentation. The annual Watermill Summer Benefit and Discover Watermill Day are two very instrumental opportunities for artists to experience theater production archives, an extensive physical and digital library, and the highly personal Watermill Collection of art objects and artifacts. Participants of the Summer Program are also encouraged to audition for Wilson’s summer staging rehearsals and participate in workshops with his collaborators, as well as have the chance to network with local arts-supporting community.
Program participants are individual artists, students, or artistic professionals from all disciplines, backgrounds and cultures who are interested in immersing themselves in a collaborative environment, contributing to workshops of new international productions and exhibitions, creating and executing site-specific performances and installations, designing and executing landscaping projects, and attending lectures by scholars and established artists. Makeup artists, costume designers and fabricators, architects, electricians, carpenters, graphic artists, and videography and theater technicians are also encouraged to apply.
The Watermill Center was founded by avant-garde visionary Robert Wilson in 1992. It serves as an interdisciplinary laboratory for the arts supporting young and emerging artists through its year-round Artist Residency Program, International Summer Program, as well as Education Programs, and open rehearsals. The Center also presents exhibitions, public programming, and offers weekly tours of its 20,000+ square-foot building and eight-and-a-half acres of grounds and sculpture gardens throughout the year.
The deadline to apply is Saturday, February 17, 2018 and the International Summer Program will run from July 16 through August 18.
The Watermill Center is located at 39 Watermill Towd Road in Water Mill. For more information and to apply, call 212-253-7484 x110 or visit watermillcenter.com.
