The Victor D'Amico Institute of Art (also known as The Art Barge) will host a conversation with world renowned visual and performance artist, Laurie Anderson, on Wednesday, August 10th. Anderson will be the final guest in The Art Barge's 2016 Artists Speak series. The program will be moderated by Andrea Grover, Curator of Special Projects at The Parrish Art Museum in Water Mill and soon to be Executive Director of Guild Hall in East Hampton.

The Artists Speak series was started in 1983 as an invitational discussion with renowned artists about their life and work. Some of the participants from past series have included Christo, Alfonso Ossorio, Chuck Close, Dan Flavin, Jack Youngerman, Audrey Flack, James Rosenquist, Elaine de Kooning, and many more. Last year's programming welcomed Jack Lenor Larsen, Joan Semmel and Elliot Erwitt.

"Since 1985, the Artist Speak series has given the community the opportunity to 'hear' how our local artists see," said Christopher Kohan, President of the Art Barge.

Laurie Anderson is an accomplished American artist best known for her multimedia presentations and innovative use of technology. Anderson's background in writing, directing, visual art has allowed her groundbreaking works to span the worlds of art, theater, and experimental music.

The artist's recording career, launched in 1981 with O Superman, includes the soundtrack to her feature film Home of the Brave and Life on a String (2001). Her live shows range from simple spoken word to elaborate multi-media stage performances such as Songs and Stories for Moby Dick (1999). Anderson has also penned seven books and has presented her work in major museums around the world. Her latest film, Heart of a Dog, was released just last year.
