Members of Our Fabulous Variety Show (OFVS), an East End-based theater group, are busily preparing for their annual A Spectacular Christmas Carol production taking place at Guild Hall on Friday, December 4th, Saturday, December 5th and Sunday, December 6th. But before the curtain rises on the holiday spectacular, OFVS is looking for an exceptional student to award their Performing Arts Scholarship to.

"As part of their mission, OFVS always gives back a portion of their proceeds back to the community through a local non-profit and with their OFVS Performing Arts Scholarship, which was established last summer, they hope to award a local high school senior with a background in the performing arts for their undergraduate studies," explained Kasia Klimiuk, OFVS Producing Artistic Director and CFO.

Open to East End high school seniors, applicants must have a background in the performing arts (theatre, choral ensembles, drama productions, musical productions, orchestra, dance, opera, marching bands and other musical ensembles), but the scholarship is not limited to just those studying performing arts.

"Last year, Montauk local Colleen Edwards received $1,000 and continues her studies in dance and English at Hofstra University as a sophomore," noted Klimiuk. "We encourage all local students to apply even if they are not pursuing a degree in the performing arts."

To apply, students must submit:

 • A completed scholarship application
 • A letter of recommendation, which should come from an instructor or professional colleague the applicant has worked or had a close relationship with
 • A one page resume listing extracurricular activities, honors, employment experience, community service and special skills, and activities in the performing arts
 • A personal statement essay from the student that addresses one of the following questions (500-750 words): How do the performing arts affect education and community? How have you benefited from the performing arts? or How will the performing arts be part of your future?

The application deadline is Sunday, November 15th.
