Eighth grade students from Montauk Intermediate School will show the East End community the power of the written language during WORD UP! A Middle School Celebration of Poetry.
Prior to the event, the students were guided by professional poets during a workshop where they explored their creativity by composing and editing their own original works of poetry. The young poets were taught several techniques of verbal expression as they bettered their own understanding of the art of spoken language and oral traditions.
Their hard work is culminating during a live poetry event in Guild Hall
's John Drew Theater, which is open to the public. WORD UP! features readings of original works, memorized works, selected poems, and fellow students' poems. The reading will take place on Wednesday, March 11th at 7 p.m.
Admission is free.
