is getting ready for their sixth annual fine art festival and this year, guests should be ready for celebrations of local artists, book signings and a little bit of homework before they make their purchases.
Guests can expect pieces by artists from the Hamptons as well as from all over the world in 77 galleries. They will also have the opportunity to meet authors and photographers. According to Kristina Nazarévskaia of galleryIntell, an online source for those wanting to learn more about the art world, ArtHamptons is "diverse, emerging, and focused" in that it mainly showcases Long Island artists.
"The fair focuses primarily on the artists local to Long Island so expect a wide representation of emerging local talent," Nazarévskaia said. "Expect affordable price ranges and fresh innovative ideas from young and upcoming artists."
UNCOMMON GROUND, an outdoor sculpture exhibit, will also feature some of their work inside the tents. Dennis Morris
, who photographed The Sex Pistols
, will be releasing a limited-edition book of some his work as well.
Along with the local talent, authors and photographers will be available to discuss and autograph their works.
There will be book signings with Michael Clinton
author of "Wanderlust", Eric Meola
author of "Streets of Fire" which includes Bruce Springsteen
images, Bob Taylor
author of "POLO: Equine Warriors" and a meet-and-greet with photographer Stephen Wilkes
Before heading to Bridgehampton, Nazarévskaia recommends that first timers do a little research before deciding on what pieces they want in their homes. Keep in mind that these kind of fairs are focused on profit so do not be afraid to ask questions if someone is trying to push a piece into your hands.
"Read the recommendations and do your homework," she said.
In addition, first timers should get a map and circle the galleries they wish to see.
"Do your research and know why you are buying it," Nazarévskaia said. "Buy art because you love it and it speaks to you!"
Some of the event highlights include the Opening Preview Party on Thursday, meeting this years Lifetime
Achievement Award winner Saul Leiter on Friday, the annual Hamptons Tea Dance
at ArtHamptons on Saturday, and Art-Polo @ ArtHamptons on Saturday (which is sponsored by Hamptons.com, Hamptons Weekly Brief Subscribers
check your email for the invite) and Sunday.
