Southampton - On Monday, July 20, at St. John's University, the Kaiser Division All-Star Team, which consists of players from the North Fork, Riverhead, Westhampton, Southampton and Sag Harbor, will take on the elite talent from the Wolff Division in the Atlantic Collegiate Baseball League All-Star Game (7 p.m.). The winner of the game will earn home-field advantage for the best-of-three championship series to be held in early to mid-August.
Riverhead right-hander Nick Tropeano earned the starting nod as he led the league in strikeouts entering Saturday's games with 51 in 31 innings, and his two-inning scoreless relief effort on Thursday nailed down his fifth win of the year, also a league high. None of the Kaiser pitching selections has an earned run average over 3, and Gardner Leaver (0.74) and Daniel Etienne (0.94) are each under a run per nine innings pitched.
With the bats, Riverhead's Peter Greskoff, a slugging first baseman from Brown University, is a threat to take home the triple crown. Going into Friday's games, Greskoff led the ACBL home runs (6), ranked second in RBI (21) and was 10th in batting average (.365). The South Fork will defend behind the plate and up the middle for the Kaiser Division. Sag Harbor's Ed Squeri (Dowling) and Westhampton's Gerard Tingos (Long Island U) will form the middle infield to start the game, and another Whaler, Brandon Boykin (Rutgers), will start in center field. The Aviators' Chris Walker (Fordham) earned the start at catcher.
The Kaiser Division team will be coached by Jason Lefkowitz, as he's the manager of the defending division champion Whalers. He will be assisted by Southampton manager Andrew Lorraine, Riverhead manager Ron Davies, Long Island manager Keith Kenny and Sag Harbor assistant Jonathan Anderson.
