Hampton Bays and East Hampton stamped their tickets to the playoffs with different degrees of emphasis. The Baymen held off Shoreham-Wading River to earn their first home game since 1984; Bonac lost its chance at a home-field advantage with a seven-point home defeat at the hands of Hauppauge.

McAllister Tops Classmates To Capture Hurricane 5K; Penn, Kelly Win Triple Crown


In entering the football complex and making one final loop around Hansen Field, McAllister was able to maintain his slight lead over his Westhampton cross country and track teammate down the back stretch. The sophomore registered a time of 16 minutes, 23 seconds, to eke out the win in the third leg of the Hamptons Triple Crown.

With each school year that goes by, we bid adieu to the high school athletes who lit up the East End for one or more seasons for one or more years. This fall, a vast number of them are doing the same on their college campuses, whether it's on the football field, the soccer pitch, or the volleyball court. Successful Saturday Puts Time For Teens 5K In Motion


Bill Reed was in control from the start at the first annual Time For Teens 5K. The Hampton Bays resident and local race regular posted a time of 18 minutes, 6 seconds, which averages out to 5:50 per mile. The inaugural race drew a small crowd of 29 runners and walkers, but it figures only to grow.

A Rare Doubleheader: Kraus Runs Shelter Island 5K, Gets Married In Afternoon


Even before the race started, Janelle Kraus was in a celebratory mode. The day was to be grand, no matter how she finished in her hometown race, Saturday's Shelter Island 5K Run/Walk For Breast Cancer. She was back home, she had her best of friends beside her, and after the race was over, they'd all get back together again for her wedding that afternoon. It was quite a day indeed for Kraus and her Shelter Island family.

WEEK 6 FOOTBALL: Baymen Roll To 6-0 With Thrilling Win Over Bayport; EH, WH Jockey For Playoffs


Hampton Bays and East Hampton are well on their way to the playoffs, thanks in part to key victories this past weekend against Bayport-Blue Point and Deer Park respectively. Also in Division III, Westhampton came from behind in the fourth quarter to move to 3-3 on the year and dramatically increase their own postseason chances.

Behind sophomore quarterback Teague Florio, Southampton stayed in playoff contention with a rout of Mercy. The other three East End teams - East Hampton, Westhampton and Hampton Bays - are in the mix themselves but only after suffering heartbreaking losses in Week 7.

The workout, the after-party, the camaraderie, they're all well and good. They're not why Brian Wolff journeyed from Sound Beach to Montauk on Sunday morning for the sixth annual Serpent's Back Mountain Bike Duathlon. He came to win.

Pearlman, Allen Go The Distance To Repeat As Hamptons Marathon Champs


Oz Pearlman, a 27-year-old magician from Manhattan, wore the No. 1 bib as the defending champion of the Hamptons Marathon, and defend his championship he did. Pearlman broke away from the pack early and cruised to victory, posting a time of 2:39:24. He led by four minutes a quarter of the way through, extended it to six at the 13-mile mark and dialed it up to win by better than 12 minutes over second-place Michael Bryson.

WEEK 5 FOOTBALL: Heneveld (4 TDs) Powers East Hampton Past Westhampton; Baymen To 5-0


Austin Heneveld racked up four touchdowns as East Hampton moved its record to 4-1 with a 35-21 victory over Westhampton on Friday night. On Saturday, Hampton Bays stayed unbeaten by holding off a surging Port Jefferson squad to win 35-21 as well.

A day on the links - not too hot, not too cold - a little competition, good company, fine fare, and best of all, at Monday's 2nd Annual Ann Liguori Foundation Charity Golf Classic, all proceeds went toward the American Cancer Society and Healthy Children, Healthy Futures, a wellness program that teaches East End youth about good nutrition and fitness. WEEK 4 FOOTBALL: Hobbled Hurricanes Still Blast Miller Place; HB Up To 4-0


The future is now for the Hurricanes. Riddled by injuries, Westhampton had to turn to its talented underclassmen in a crucial matchup with Miller Place on Saturday, and the youngsters stepped up to the challenge. Westhampton impressively knocked off the Panthers 24-7 during an action-packed weekend that included romps by Hampton Bays and Southampton, as well as East Hampton being knocked from the unbeaten ranks.

Sag Harbor Honors Fallen Hero At Memorial Fishing Tournament


More than 100 fishermen left Long Wharf for the inaugural Lance Corporal Jordan Haerter Memorial Fishing Tournament, which honored the United States Marine from Sag Harbor who was killed in Iraq. Everyone had their fill of food, beverages and good times at the daylong gala; however, no one lost sight of why they were there in the first place.

Thursday was a fine day for the South Fork squads, two of which looked to remain unbeaten and did so, and two others who looked to even their record. On short rest, East Hampton, Hampton Bays, Southampton and Westhampton won big, won by a miniscule margin, but the bottom line was that they won.

They've both gone through the levels upon levels of qualifying races, the travel, and the innumerable hours of training. What Team GO SAIL discovered in Beijing, though, is that once they were on the water, the surroundings weren't unlike the waters they'd trained and raced on leading up to the Olympics.
