Well, it's not just our visitors who take their holidays in August. So many brokers have "we're away" messages on their emails. This occurrence, however, is not necessarily market related. In the past, August was the getaway month before the rush of "serious" September buyers as opposed to the July "really want a ride to the beach" lookers.
Has the tide turned? Is the move back to locally owned real estate firms rather than the big corporates from far away? Well, veteran broker, Joe Kazickas and his new firm Rosehip Partners, operating out of East Hampton but covering it all, got back to us as promised and seems things have turned in the corporate tide.
This week we received many responses on the issues of mean vs. median price of homes selling in the Hamptons. We heard from readers who chimed in on both sides of the topic.
George Simpson's Suffolk Research Service, Inc. will be preparing the market report for Hamptons and North Fork Realtors Association (HANFRA) - plenty to read in that report we're sure. We also heard from realtors regarding trends in the market.
Some may recall that one of the first out here to work as a team was Tom MacNiven with Michelle Tiberio at Cook Pony Farm in 1998 through 2000. In 1999 they set a record of 37 closed sales in one year - one deal every 10 days. I guess that says something for teamwork.
Just when you thought it was safe to go in the water, we get home security tricks from, Tom Kraeutler, AOL's Home Improvement Editor. We also heard from The Corcoran Group, a new team, and the folks at ReMax.
This week we got your feedback on a wide variety of topics along with plenty of good wishes for my trip to the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas.
Okay as promised but 'nuff said! This is the last of your comments, we hope, on that beach of a story in that 'daily' because we know you are all concentrating on the news that nationally the sale of homes went up three percent in April according to the National Realtors Association.
We heard from many professionals this week about homes that sit on the market. Perhaps it's time to call in a home staging service they suggest. We also had feedback responding to the the doom and gloomers in the national press with regard to the housing market. 2 comments
That beach of a "news" story from The New York Post two weeks ago was so weighted for sensationalism to this columnist's mind, that any germ of truth in it was bogged down by the ballast. We hope you, your clients, and your customers were able to celebrate Memorial Day weekend remembering those who sacrificed for us without concern for market spin. 1 comment
Dear readers, I am taking the week off. In my place is Bill Gardiner (as in Gardiner's Bay, Gardiner's Island, various lanes, and a host of farms) to give local folks and visitors for this seasonal start a "sense of place" as to where they are.
East End real estate can be a very nice business. This week we hear from women across the Hamptons making big strides in the business as well as the folks from Habitat for Humanity of Suffolk's Women Build and Affordable Housing.
Hey, interesting rumors, part of which you probably knew about a few gyms in and about town. News of a productive and happy team of agents. Town & Country Real Estate's CEO Judi Desiderio adds her report to the others with regard to the market.
This week we heard from a few new agents. They gave us the scoop on commercial real estate movers and shakers. We also got the skinny on the 2007 and 2008 numbers from people in the know.
Long-time brokers remember the old days - always remembered as the good old days - real estate was about selling, paperwork was customer cards and listing sheets, you didn't need a Mapquest to get there, nor an hour in a sea of cars to get customers from Southampton to East Hampton, and, those who sold were from here - not elsewhere.
As promised last week, here is the South Fork 2007 report by Town & Country Real Estate CEO, Judi Desiderio. For a more current right-now market reaction, we heard from Tom MacNiven managing broker, Prudential Douglas Elliman.
Amagansett must be proud of native son Harold McMahon and his new state-of-the-art medical building and professional office complex. North Fork news from Judi is positive. And we clear up some tiger-sized rumors. 1 comment
More about Tiger Woods and recent sales on Gin Lane. Is there trouble in River City? We also have new listings with big price tags, a realty tale from Town & Country, and an opening from Corcoran. 2 comments
There is a grand new listing in Westhampton Beach for those in the market for a "humble estate" by the sea. Then on to rentals, we hear it will be a very international crowd on Main Street in the Hamptons this summer season.
Watching the waves from Unit #3 of the Panoramic Villas of Montauk was quite an experience, and a reminder as to how unique Montauk oceanfront can be. We also had reports from Enzo Morabito and John Virga.
