This from mortgage broker John Clarke: "I saw your information, 'Serious Buyers on the Way' and noticed you mentioned Reverse Mortgages and Senior Lending Network. I would like to throw my hat in the ring and offer my services as a local mortgage broker who is extremely knowledgeable in the product. PAR East currently deals with three lenders who offer reverse mortgages, and I would be happy to talk to and advise anyone you might come across about this exciting product. I will meet with potential clients at my office (East Hampton or Southampton) or at their homes, whichever is more convenient. There is, of course, no obligation. If you have any questions, please contact me at 631-907-8208."
These items from The Corcoran Group announcing "its support of the 2008 Hampton Classic, one of the East End's most prestigious summer sporting and social events, now celebrating its 33rd year. The Hampton Classic is one of the season's most noteworthy events," said Corcoran Group President & CEO Pamela Liebman. "Corcoran is honored to continue to sponsor one of the Hamptons' most exciting and worthwhile traditions."
Liebman continued, "This year The Corcoran Group will award the Perpetual Trophy for Best Pony Hunter in Show on Saturday, Aug. 30 in the Hunter Ring II. It is awarded to the pony and rider earning the most points in the small, medium and large Pony Hunter category."
These from Norma Reynolds' family Vicki Reynolds: "What a beautiful tribute. My mom would have loved it! I sent it on to my brothers and sister and they loved it so - my brother said it was truly wonderful and then followed up with 'I'm so sad now' and I said don't be sad Mom would have loved the writing, the story telling, and everything about the tribute. He said 'I know but I'm still sad' and I said I am too but to see how Mom made an impact on people's lives makes me smile - Thank you for my smile today!"
And from brother and Edward B. Reynolds, Jr: "Lona, thank you for the perfect tribute to my mom, you truly did know her well - you said so much in a way that she would have appreciated. Again, thank you."
Well back to that important piece of East Hampton real estate, the East Hampton Airport, in the forefront again, with decisions about its future finally and allegedly supposed to be made by that Town's Board very soon. A cross section of support came from prominent Democrats, Republicans, and pilots - Judith Hope former East Hampton Town Supervisor and former State Democratic Chair and local attorney and pilot Tom Twomey. The Small Plane Pilot Association's concerns were articulated by Bill Berkowski of Southampton's Berkowski Ice and Cold Storage and former Town Republican Councilwoman Nancy McCaffrey. And we heard from those opposed - Mr. Wadsworth and Mr. French from Citizens for a Quieter Airport. (Hope made the point that she, like everyone there, was not for a noisier airport).
So we shall see if the three runways remain in place, if they are repaired, if the FAA continues to pay for 90 percent of the maintenance and repairs for them, and whose safety standards must be followed in any case. This decision was promised, if memory serves me, over four years ago. So there are drum rolls now.
In any case, East End real estate - airports, commercial, residences, land (disappearing), affordable housing, rental opportunities for our workforce, town owned property sales to bail out deficit budgets - is a very strange business, and, despite all of it, we hope everyone got through the summer in tact. All of us, by the way, might go to back to school and keep on learning.
