Art, design and architecture are colliding at the Parrish Art Museum in Water Mill on Thursday, August 31 at 5 p.m. when architects Maziar Behrooz and Bruce Engel will hold a discussion focused on the revival of design publications as forums for critical dialogue on urban planning and architecture, with a focus on a proposal to redesign the Village of East Hampton. In addition, Levi Shaw-Faber, the editor of the new design magazine End launching August 24, will join Behrooz and Engel for this multi-dimensional event entitled Inter-Sections: The Architect in Conversation.

"Critical debate in architecture and urban planning is essential in this time of unstoppable growth," said Corinne Erni, Curator of Special Projects at the Parrish Art Museum. "I welcome a lively discussion about rethinking and reshaping the East End with these creative thinkers and architects."

The program will commence with a presentation by Behrooz and Engel and focus on MB Architecture's Summer Studio project, Restoring Forward: A Vision for East Hampton Village. The project, which began in 2001, will be featured in End's first edition and has been an independent initiative by the firm to reshape the classic Hamptons town.

Restoring Forward was created as a plan to revitalize East Hampton Village and restore it to its original human character as a vibrant, cohesive town center. The plan is focused on shifting activity from Main Street and providing other space for community engagement by using key buildings anchored at the north end of Newtown Lane. New recreation and culture hubs will be supported by new infill housing in the Village, including accessory structures such as sheds, barns, and small houses built on existing properties to create more affordable housing. To make the journey from Main Street to the north end of Newtown Lane more pleasurable and safe, there will be walking and biking paths to connect the destinations.

Tickets are $12 and free for members, children, and students.

The Parrish Art Museum is located at 279 Montauk Highway in Water Mill. For more information, call 631-283-2118 or visit parrishart.org.
