Though their gallery was consumed by the Main Street fire in Sag Harbor in December of 2016, the RJD Gallery team spent the new few months working on the construction of a new location. RJD Gallery debuted the new space during a joyous launch party that was attended by many.
With the kind cooperation of the Atlantic Bluffs Club on Old Montauk Highway, the Montauk Fire Department conducted a "Hotel Fire and Water Supply Drill". According to MFD Chief Vincent Franzone, the location was perfect for testing the coverage of the Departments hoses, the capacity of the available hydrants, and the effect of changing hose attachments. The drill was a complete success.
Chabad of East Hampton held "A Magical Purim Celebration" at Chabad House on Woods Lane in East Hampton. As is traditional for Purim, everyone dressed up in silly costumes and had fun and laughs. The guests made plenty of noise for the name "Haman", as Rabbi Leibel Baumgarten read/chanted The Megillah (The Book of Esther). Expert Photographer Musia Baumgarten took instant souvenir portraits, and Goldie Baumgarten performed her usual excellent food magic, while Jason performed his Card Magic for the amazement of the audience.
There is nobody more passionate about good manners and proper etiquette than Dale Ellen Leff. Her motto is "Be your best, at your best, at all times". As a person who acts on her beliefs, on Saturday, Dale invited ten boys and girls from East Hampton Schools, ages 11 to 16, to one of her "The Leff Etiquette Edge" Workshops in a private East Hampton home.
Fitness guru Tracy Anderson, who has Hamptons studios in Water Mill and East Hampton, opened her Flagship Studio in New York City. The trainer to the stars was supported "Girls" Lena Dunham and Jenni Konner, Hilary Rhoda, Alex Guarnaschelli, Hannah Bronfman and more at the event.
Buckskill Winter Club was abuzz with Skate-a-thon participants during Katy's Courage 6th Annual Fundraiser at the East Hampton-based Club. In addition to an hour long Skate-a-thon, the event included a ceremonial Puck Throw, Figure Skating Recital, Public Skate, and the Katy's Courage Hockey Game.
Lucy Sachs, Devon Yacht Club’s current Commodore, and Past Commodore John Hossenlopp, were pleased to present the recently published book celebrating 100 Years of Devon Yacht Club to Amagansett Free Library, The Amagansett Historical Association, East Hampton Library and East Hampton Historical Society for their collections.
Jean and Martin Shafiroff opened their home to announce this year's honorees at The New York City Mission Society's April 5 gala at the Mandarin Oriental. Diahann Carroll, real estate entrepreneur Don Peebles, and three lifetime members of the Mission Society's Board of Directors - Dina Merrill Hartley, whose family has supported the Mission Society for four generations; Lloyd W. Brown, II; and, LTC Francis W. Kairson, Jr. - will be recognized for their contributions.
The Meeting Room at Montauk Fire House was once again transformed into a New York City style Comedy Club by LaughNYC, with the annual "Fire & EMS Hero Comedy Night". The evening of stand up comedy, food and beverages provided a well-deserved, laugh-filled break from their normally serious and stressful work of protecting our communities. It was a cooperative effort of the Amagansett Fire Department (Chief Allen Bennett) and the Montauk Fire Department (Chief Vincent Franzone). Performers included Paul Corrigan, Gary Keshner, John Larocchia (former New York City firefighter, turned comedian), and headliner Jerrold Benford (soon to appear on "Comedy Central").
Locals and visitors alike headed to Sag Harbor for a village-wide winter celebration that showcased two extreme elements — fire and ice. Attendees watched in awe as Harborfrost kicked off with brave souls taking a frosty plunge, and the fun continued with ice carving demonstrations, live music performances, indoor children’s activities, the Hysterical Society’s Culinary Stroll, fire jugglers and dancers, Fireworks by Grucci over the harbor, and more.
