The Retreat's Third Annual Hamptons Pursuit Car Rallye-Tour de Hamptons

Three classic Morgans in the same road rallye? Only in the Hamptons! (Douglas Harrington)

The front hatch opening BMW Lsetta might not have been the fastest car at the rallye, but it was certainly one of the most unique in design.

Bridgehampton - There are only a few rare communities in America where one could hold a charity road rallye and have several Lotus, a number of Ferraris, a few Lamborghinis, a BMW Lsetta, a Porsche Spyder and three classic Morgans show up. Such was the case for the Retreat's Third Annual Hamptons Pursuit Car Rallye-Tour de Hamptons.

The 90 mile course had a shotgun start with a continental breakfast at the Bridgehampton Commons from its staging point in front of the Retreat Boutique at 8:30 a.m. It wound its way through the scenic byways of the East End to Montauk Point then back to North Haven for a lunch and an awards ceremony at the beautiful waterfront estate of Richard Damato, the Retreat's Board President.

Along the way drivers stopped at checkpoints to get their rallye passport stamped and to answer trivia questions. The winning cars were determined by a combination of time, stamps and the number of questions answered. The rallye was limited to 50 cars and all spots were taken. The course was made more challenging this year due to a couple of downpours along the way, but the participants had a great time nonetheless and all drivers made it to the finish line safe and sound.

Once at the Damato estate, the drivers and their navigators were treated to a scrumptious lunch and breathtaking views. There were also numerous raffle prizes and, of course, prizes for the winning cars, of which there were four.

In truth, the big winner here was the Retreat itself that for over 20 years has been a safe haven in the East End for victims of domestic abuse. The Retreat provides housing, legal advocacy, counseling and a critically important 24-hour hotline. They also have created education, job training and prevention programs and all of their services and programs are free.

The Retreat's Third Annual Hamptons Pursuit Car Rallye-Tour de Hamptons was a gathering of good, community minded people in great cars supporting an essential organization that provides critical help to those caught in the crisis of domestic violence.
