New York City - Marking the anniversary of American Explorer Robert E. Peary's expedition to the North Pole, Johan Ernst Nilson, a Swedish explorer known for his unparalleled climate neutral travels, will embark on a journey, beginning Wednesday, April 6, 2011, from the northernmost point to the southernmost point of planet earth. The expedition, titled Climate Neutral, Pole2Pole, also honors Norwegian Explorer Roald Amundsen, who was first to reach the South Pole in 1911.

Johan's journey of some 12,000 miles commences by walking 124 miles on the Arctic ice of the North Pole to the Svalbard Archipelago in Greenland. He will then navigate across the Arctic Ocean to Ottawa, Canada and cycle six months through North and South America, passing through major cities in the United States such as New York, Philadelphia, Washington, and Austin, to the Amazon Jungle before arriving in Patagonia. Finally, he awaits a two-month journey in Antarctica on skis and a parafoil, to the South Pole. The expected duration of Climate Neutral, Pole2Pole - one year!

When asked how he felt about the expedition, Johan just laughed, "I've been going to the gym twice a day and having daily yoga sessions. I feel mentally and physically prepared, then again, you never know what Mother Nature is going to throw at you!" Globally known as the environmental explorer, Johan has accomplished some 30 excursions across 100 countries, both solo and with a team! His most-well-known project to-date was his 2008 Seven Summits journey, in which he reached the summits of the highest mountains on each of the seven continents, including Mount Everest, Mount McKinley and the Vinson Massif. Along with his adventures, Johan seeks to give back to the community, with such charitable involvements as being an Ambassador for International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), MinStoraDag and Swedish PostcodeLottery, Honorary Goodwill Ambassador, Nepal and is a member of The Explorers Club, just to name a few. In between travels, Johan also holds lectures ranging from motivational speeches to eco-friendly awareness, as well as publishing a photobook titled "Seven Summits - The Photobook," featuring images from his Seven Summits journey.

With his first expedition being a result of a wager in 1994 (biking from Stockholm to Morocco in 52 days), Johan has continuously sought out more ambitious projects. Today, expeditions require extensive planning and Johan is now focusing on exploring the extreme regions of the globe. Teaming up with iconic brands such as Audi - who has recently named him a brand Ambassador along with Justin Timberlake - and watch-maker ZENITH, Johan has been featured on globally renowned media outlets such as BBC, CNN, Discovery Channel and the National Geographic Channel.
