Bay Street Theatre and Animal Rescue Fund of the Hamptons (ARF) have teamed up for “Travels With Charley” Dog Walk on Saturday, May 4 at 8:30 a.m. honoring Steinbeck Weekend. Jill Rappaport, NBC Today Show correspondent as well as award-winning animal advocate will serve as celebrity host along with Barbara Slifka as Honorary Chair.
The event is inspired by the novel “Travels With Charley” which became a best-seller by writer John Steinbeck after he set off to drive cross country from his home in Sag Harbor with his French poodle, Charley and wrote about his journey.
Similar to a 5k, the walk begins at Haven’s Beach and finishes at Bay Street Theatre followed by a “Bagels and Bones” reception. To participate, dog owners may pick up forms in advance at Bay Street Theatre on the Long Wharf in Sag Harbor, ARF in East Hampton or Harbor Pets in Sag Harbor. A grand prize will be awarded to the person who raises the most money. The entrance fee is $25 and all proceeds will benefit Bay Street Theatre and ARF.
