Southampton - Here comes 2012 and people everywhere will be making their annual New Year's resolutions, but by the third week of January most people will have forgotten their resolutions and are back doing exactly what they were doing before.

Sirius XM talk show host Willie Jolley, known as America's Comeback King and author of the book "It Only Takes a Minute to Change Your Life," says if you want to make a change in your life this year and have the best year ever, you have to SMART your goals.

Here's How To Do It:

 • "S" - Specific: Don't just say I want to lose weight. Get specific! I want to lose 20 pounds by March 1 and I'm going to eat right, exercise three times each week and not give into cravings.

 • "M" - Measurable: Set a goal that is measurable so you can check your progress as you go. Don't just say, "I want to be happy." That's not measurable.

 • "A" - Attainable: This means a goal that is in the realm of possibility. The idea is to push beyond your comfort zone, but not so far where it becomes impossible and you become frustrated and give up.

 • "R" - Relevant : Is your goal important to you? Are you passionate about it? Does it involve your purpose? If you answer no it's going to be nearly impossible.

 • "T" - Time-bound: Set a date by which you want to achieve your goals. This eliminates procrastination.

Jolley says the biggest obstacle that stops people from growing each year is a lack of continuous motivation. He says turning your goals into realities requires that you make motivation a part of your daily routine. This means have a plan to push forward after the excitement fades halfway through January.
