Actress Kathleen Turner and her partner, Charlene Spector, owner of Bookhampton, did their weekly radio show live in front of an audience. Turner and Spector have been doing a political show, Called American Dialogue, on WLIU 88.3 FM, for the past year. Last Saturday night they had a special guest, Anthony Lake, who was the National Security Advisor to former President Bill Clinton. This made for a lively, and even heated discussion, since they talked about the Iraq war, and one man from Iraq was quizzing Lake on his views. This hour-long show drew a standing room-only crowd to the bookstore.

Asked later why she decided to do her radio show in front of a live audience, Kathleen
Turner
, of Amagansett, said, "This show has been successful, so we decided to open it up so more people could hear it. By the way it went tonight, I think I'll do this live more often.
Our next guest is a soldier who has come home from Iraq, and he will tell about his
experiences." Turner said she had always been "political," and basically an activist,
including her work at Planned Parenthood and the Retreat, for victims of domestic violence, in
East Hampton.

Dr. Fred Pescatore

The Hamptons Diet, was the theme of a fun book-launching party last Saturday night, held on the lawn of a gorgeous Southampton estate owned by Pat Birch, the mother of Alison of Alison By the Beach Restaurant in Sagaponack. Alison's husband, author Harry Hurt, was also on hand, along with about 150 guests who came to meet the diet doctor himself, Dr. Fred Pescatore, of Manhattan and the Hamptons. Many of the guests were there to share their successful weight-loss achievements.

Dr. Pescatore was signing his book, and sharing his low-carb recipes with guests, who
were snacking on healthful, sugar-free, low fat and low carb hors d'oeurves. "My diet isn't
radical, you can still eat carbs and fats, but it's about making healthful choices, that are
also good for you," he said to guests. Several other companies, which he recommends in his diet, were also there with their products, including Source Naturals, of California, which
makes a large variety of supplements and vitamins, Lean Mystique, a supplement of unique herbs from the rainforest, to assist in weight loss, and a special coffee, scientifically created to save the antioxidants, which normally are cooked out of coffee.

Following this party, guests were invited to continue their revelry at Club Swa in Wainscott, the ever-happening nightclub and disco, under the publicity direction of Lizzie Grubman Public Relations. This club is always swinging into the wee hours on the weekends, and many celebrities usually show up there.

In Sagaponack, Alec Baldwin was the emcee of the Group For the South Fork's annual Gala fundraiser, and he was joined by chairpersons Christie Brinkley and her husband, Peter Cook. Baldwin is back from his Broadway stage run, and is often seen in the East Hampton area where he lives. Baldwin has turned out for many worthwhile environmental causes in recent years, as a member of the STAR Foundation to fight the Millstone Nuclear Plant problems. Christie and Peter are also heading up another great environmental cause later this month, when they will chair a gala fundraiser for the Eco Farm, an organic farm of East Hampton. This huge event is scheduled for July 31, and will include many more celebs.

Ruth Vered of Vered Gallery

We heard about some exciting art openings, and headed across the street in East Hampton, to the Vered Gallery, where all the talk was about the giant fountain of chocolate syrup and the amazing strawberries and marshmallows that everyone was dipping into it. Owners Ruth Vered and Janet Lehr were greeting the many guests who came to see their many famous painters and sculptors.

Over in Sag Harbor, a new gallery opened last weekend, called "Vignoli" Gallery, on Main
Street. Owner John Gruen, of the Gruen Optika eyewear businesses, and his wife Joan, were there to greet the curious guests who came into this former real estate office, now transformed into a beautiful art gallery. The artist Vignoli was there, showing off his huge, skyline, with a big apple core in the middle, was the subject of much attention. Another interesting artist, Ron Burkhardt, of Quogue, also had some fascinating and colorful paintings with a social and politically conscious theme.

John and Joan Gruen

We're coming upon the July 4th weekend, with family barbecues, social gatherings, and a number of village fireworks displays abounding. One big party will be the annual July 4th bash held each year at the oceanfront home of Jerry Della Femina and Judy Licht for their friends and family. There is also the big annual parade held in Southampton Village, where stars like Christie Brinkley can be spotted with her kids.
