Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Chad Smith Gives Surprise Performance During LGBT Network Hamptons Party

On Saturday, July 25th, LGBT Network hosted Sunset on the Harbor, a summer soiree in support of the organization’s Sag Harbor Center. Guests gathered at the Breakwater Yacht Club, where they sipped on cocktails, noshed on hors d’oeuvres, and enjoyed the live music.

This was the first Sunset on the Harbor party that the Network hosted, however, according to LGBT Newtork CEO David Kilmnick, it will become one of their annual events. “What we wanted to do was give the local community here the opportunity to take pride that the LGBT Center is located just a few blocks away from here,” David Kilmnick said. “We have over 250 people here, a great mix of gay and straight people, coming out to just support the organization and all have a sense of pride.”

The event featured a silent auction, with proceeds benefiting LGBT Network’s Sag Harbor Center. Chad Smith, the drummer for the Red Hot Chili Peppers, made a splash at the party. Other well-known faces included Alan Alda and T.R. Pescod.

Local band, The Sectionals, provided the live music for the night. Towards the end of the party, Chad Smith, drummer for the Red Hot Chili Peppers, jumped on the drums and performed “Whole Lotta Love,” by Led Zepplin, with the other band members. Cell phones shot up everywhere, as party guests crowded around and cheered them on.

“This is a great cause,” Smith told Hamptons.com. “It’s very exciting to be here, especially this year, in light of what has happened with the Supreme Court. I’m just happy to support everybody. Everyone’s equal.”

Friends of Smith are on the committee and he was happy to come out for them and show his support. “It’s a great community here,” he said. “I’m very pleased to see such a positive thing going on out here and people seem so happy about everything.”
