The Breast Cancer Research Foundation hosted its second annual “Hamptons Paddle & Party for Pink” on Saturday, August 17. The two-part fundraiser started with an official World Paddle Association stand-up paddle board race in Sag Harbor which brought out approximately 150 paddle boarders, including legendary surfer Laird Hamilton, “Nurse Jackie” actress Edie Falco, Maria Baum and Richard Perry.
The event was founded by Baum who is a co-owner of Hamptons restaurant Tutto Il Giorno. After being diagnosed with breast cancer in 2011, she credits paddle boarding with helping her deal with the diagnosis, treatment and recovery.
“Taking part in today’s race means a lot to so many people,” noted Hamilton, the founder of stand-up paddle boarding. “I think everyone indirectly or directly is affected by breast cancer, or other forms of cancer, and I’m here to support The Breast Cancer Research Foundation.”
A Sunset Party was held at the waterfront estate of designer Lisa Perry and her husband Richard. Maria and Larry Baum, served as event co-chairs and guests included Laird Hamilton, his wife, Gabrielle Reece, Martha Stewart, Matt Lauer, Donna Karan, Edie Falco, Nicole Miller, Jonathan Adler, Hilary Rhoda, Mark Teixeira, Simon Doonan, and Aida Turturro.
“Many of my friends have suffered from breast cancer, and the research BCRF does is very important,” said BCRF supporter Martha Stewart.
One-of-a-kind Laird Stand Up paddle boards designed by Tory Burch, J.Crew, Cynthia Rowley, Martha Stewart, Nicole Miller, Lisa Perry, Ross Bleckner, Aerin Lauder, Thom Filicia, Lisa Pevaroff-Cohn, and Leviev were on display during the party. The paddle boards were auctioned off at CharityBuzz.com to help fund BCRF research projects.
