The “Stars of Stony Brook” Gala honoring Alan Alda was held at New York’s Chelsea Piers on Wednesday, April 24. During the event 750 guests gathered to pay tribute to Award-winning actor-director-writer and educator, Alan Alda. The tribute brought out many notable names including Joy Behar, Carl Bernstein and Noble Prize-winning neuroscientist Dr. Eric Kandel.
The benefit, which raised more than $4 million, will help fund the university’s Center for Communicating Science. The goal of the center is to enhance public understanding of science by helping scientists and health professionals learn to communicate more effectively with public officials, students, the media and colleagues in other disciplines. University President Samuel L. Stanley Jr., M.D. announced during the event that The Center would be renamed the “Alan Alda Center for Communicating Science”.
