Foundation's "Strawless Summer
." The Surf Lodge
hopes to dramatically decrease, if not totally eradicate, all single-use plastic - think drinking straws, cups, and bottles - used at the property.
"I believe that each year The Surf Lodge evolves and we take more responsibility to educate ourselves and connect people," explained Owner Jayma Cardoso
. "This year, and for years to come, The Surf Lodge is committed to supporting sustainable, environmentally friendly products and services."
Instead of plastic cups, new custom drinkware created from Ingeo™ biopolymer, a PLA resin derived from plants that is 100 percent compostable, will be available. The signature Eco Cup was created specifically for the Surf Lodge. Those staying at The Surf Lodge will have access to bath amenities from Seed Phyto Nutrients, an incubator brand backed by L'Oreal that utilizes seeds (not chemicals). Products are bottled in shower-friendly paper packaging, in partnership with Ecologic Brands. Just Water's ethically sourced 100 percent spring water, which is also packaged in paper - with a plant-based cap made from sugarcane, will be served.
"500 million straws a day are used in the United States alone and like many single-use plastics, many of those straws end up on our coasts and in our oceans and have a horrific effect on marine life," noted the Surfrider Foundation
- who recently introduced its Strawless Summer initiative - which calls upon local restaurants to go completely strawless, offering biodegradable options, upon request.
Additionally, The Surf Lodge has a weekend's worth of celebrations planned for World Oceans Day (Friday, June 9), which include beach clean-ups, a charity dinner that benefits Surfrider Foundation, and a performance by Just Water ambassador Jaden Smith.
"Going plastic-free is the right thing to do, not only for the planet, but it makes the rosé all day mantra safer for our oceans," added Cardoso. "Plus it's the best vessel to enjoy The Palm
