Happy days are here again for quite a few of our East End neighbors now that the Broadway stagehands are back to their posts. Thankfully we will no longer see busloads of weepy teens shrieking because they didn't get to catch American Idol star Fantasia in her turn in "The Color Purple".
Not everyone was lolling on sun drenched beaches in exotic locales or sipping hot toddies atop mountains in Colorado this holiday season. More than a few of our A-list neighbors were busy!
So where are the peripatetic refugees from the East End? St. Barth is the destination of choice for many of our neighbors. Indeed, one of my traveling spies told me that the harbor was starting to look like Main Street and Newtown Lane with so many familiar Hamptons personalities flitting from yacht to yacht.
From Manhattan to Montauk and all points in between, this is going to be one very merry holiday season for so many of our friends and neighbors!
Lady Diana Cooper said it all: First you are young, then you are middle-aged, then you are old, then you are wonderful - which totally sums up the latest endeavors of some of our, shall we say, senior neighbors who simply refuse to sit back and watch the dandelions grow.
Already my mailbox is overflowing with holiday party invitations. How to whittle them down to which will actually be fun and which will be a bloody bore is my big problem. Fear not, I will, in my never-ending quest bring you the last dish on our East End neighbors! 2 comments
Great, great news for Rachel Roy! Book buyers seem to be experiencing Donald fatigue. Meryl Streep as Julia Child? Some bad - and sad - news on the local retail scene. Movie mogul Harvey Weinstein has finally popped the question.
This is one of those "good news - bad news columns". Lots of bits have been coming Jen's way and I'm not so sure sometimes if I know the difference. So strike that. Let's just say I've got tons of dish to share and I'll let you be the judge of what is what. OK?
Great books to pick up anytime. Loved the Quill Awards. Congrats to Sean. Dennis is all about fabulous furs. Cheers to Rachel and Damon! Jerry is buzzing next door to Vijay. Diddy makes a splash with Ciroc.
Charles jetted to the UK to see Heather. How does Jessica do it all? Love the James Lipton memoir! Pieces of Princess Grace's wardrobe are up for auction. Talking jewelry with Catherine and Charlize - divine. Cheers to Gian Carlo, Michael, Mitchell, and Richard.
Gillian Hearst-Shaw is one happy new bride. Back on the island, Billy Joel was honored. John applauded Patty. Love the new "Clinton Foundation Equation of Time" timepiece by Audemars Piguet. The Grammer Residence is on the market in Bridgehampton. In NYC Ms. Rennert just picked up a place from Vera.
Southampton's Main Street looked like high summer with crowds squeezing by the street side displays of local stores clearing out merchandise for new fall goods. I spied the window at Bookhampton and was suddenly awed by the sheer number of hot books on display by so many familiar names - mostly our neighbors!
Before I get into the great dish that I've picked up this week, I thought I'd pass on a few tips on several happenings this weekend that are quintessentially classic Hamptons that you won't want to miss!
Just in time for our little film festival, local directors and producers are making waves. Leading the pack is Bob Balaban with his film "Bernard and Doris". The auction block at Sotheby's is getting glitzy with historic jewels up for bid. Get your paddles ready!
I don't know if anyone else really noticed, but for a while Fashion Week looked more like the American Booksellers Convention. If you weren't promoting a book this season, you were not on the charts party wise.
Summer is still with us despite the claims of certain magazines and TV shows that would have us think that golden time was over when share houses emptied on Labor Day weekend. There have been fab parties - we know who was there.
Summer may be fading but one thing's for sure in the Hamptons, love and big deals are definitely in the air!
And the winner for Best Celebrity "Get" of Summer 2007 must go to Jane Rosenthal and Craig Hatkoff. The couple snared the most photographed couple in the world - Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. In other juicy news - Ralph turns 40, Norah is getting hitched, and the HIFF turns 15.
Debra has new shoes and Saks has a new zip code. Donald and Star made the rounds. Susan Sutherland is bringing Parisian style to the Hamptons - tres chic! Mr. Peebles is breaking new grounds all over the East Coast. Harvey got Penelope and Javier. Wei Fun is way fun - check out who's been there.
Steph is a super model. Dita is a bombshell. SJP is rocking. John gets sexy. Martha makes more good things. Way to go Chuck! Hi Mariah! Sir Paul and his ex complicate the party scene.
