Southampton - Break out the champagne and dust off those Manolos! The rumors are true! Carrie Bradshaw, and her posse of fabulous ladies, will reunite for a sequel to their first big screen foray together, "Sex and the City: The Movie." The fierce foursome will begin shooting this summer and unless there are some beach house scenes built into the script, don't expect to see
Sarah Jessica Parker, hubby
Matthew Broderick, and son
James Wilkie scarfing burgers at
Indian Wells Tavern or
Kim Cattrall flashing her signature smile at Polo this summer. And no long idyllic beach weekends for
Cynthia Nixon and
Kristin Davis either.

Michael Patrick King, who wrote and directed the first SATC movie has also signed up for the sequel. Despite buzz that the gals were difficult to reign in, King said in a statement that he was, "very excited to work with these amazing actresses again."
From TV to film and now again from film to the stage. The once battling
Harvey Weinstein and legendary producer
Martin Richards have kissed and made up. After years of court battles over Marty's share of royalties from the multiple Oscar winning "Chicago" - the hit stage musical to film that re-wrote the book on movie musicals - the pair are teaming up once again. Word is they'll co-produce, appropriately, a musical version of
Woody Allen's classic "Bullets over Broadway" for the Great White Way.
Broadway star
Nathan Lane, who has a house in East Hampton, celebrated his birthday in haute "Producers" style at The Café Carlyle in Manhattan. He and a pack of theatre pals took in
Christine Ebersole's critically acclaimed nightclub act. The always playful Ebersole sang "Happy Birthday" to Lane in the style of
Marilyn Monroe. Helping to blow out the candles were Mr. Big himself
Chris Noth,
Michael Blakemore,
Rupert Everett,
Rob Ashford,
Scott Wittman, and the very funny
Andrea Martin.
Westhampton's reigning diva of daytime
Susan Lucci seems to never take a break. Just weeks ago she was part of the celeb studded Red Dress Campaign to create awareness for the Heart Truth effort. This week she headlined an all-star show of daytime's favorite villains and sirens as well as hosted "Broadway Babies" at New York's Town Hall for the 5th Annual "ABC and SOAPnet Salutes Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS" event. Sexy
Cameron Matheson hosted the glittering parade of talent that featured the casts of "All My Children," "One Life to Live," and "General Hospital." Joining in the fun were cast members from a number of Broadway shows including all three of the "Billys" of "Billy Elliott" fame.
Her energy amazes me - I mean when does she have time to work on her Erika Kane character? Anyway, she and the show were spectacular and 10 lucky audience members and their guests won the ultimate soap fan's dream, the opportunity to have an exclusive VIP tour of either the "All My Children" or "One Life to Live" sets.
Kudos to
Jim Clark, Netscape founder/tycoon who hosted a small concert and a dinner for
Toby and
Itzhak Perlman at his spectacular house in Palm Beach last month. The concert was given by alumni and current students of Perlman's Shelter Island Music School.
Since I have already told you about the upcoming reunion on film of those SATC gals, I should also spill the beans on the "Seinfeld" crowd reportedly getting back together for a fun TV outing. After making their final television bow 11 years ago - has it been that long already? - the main foursome have never quite seemed to get the attention they received when they were on the cult show. But TV, if not life, always gives second chances and this fall the cast will reunite in a storyline on
Larry David's "Curb Your Enthusiasm," making it the first time
Jerry Seinfeld,
Julia Louis-Dreyfus,
Jason Alexander, and
Michael Richards will appear on the same show since the "Seinfeld" finale. David - in case you didn't know - was co-creator of "Seinfeld."
Great news from my friend
April Gornik, who when she is not working feverishly to Save Sag Harbor or pitching in to help a pal's cause gets a few hours to paint. As I'm sure you know, April is a world class painter of landscapes and seascapes whose work resides in some of the most prominent collections around the world. Now, I hear she has been selected for one of the highest honors for an artist - three of her recent works will be included in the American Academy of Arts & Letters Invitational Exhibition of Visual Arts which opens this week at their magnificent Audubon Terrace home in upper Manhattan.

Typical of April who never wants to put anyone out, she says in her invite, "It is a schlep to get up there and don't worry if you can't make it." Can't make it? She was only chosen from a field of 170 artists nominated by the 250-member Academy, the most prestigious honor society of architects, artists, writers, and composers. The Academy is headquartered in three Beaux Arts granite and limestone buildings that are part of the Audubon Terrace Historic District, a museum complex in upper Manhattan between West 155th and 156th Streets. The land that comprises the Terrace was donated by academy member
Archer M. Huntington, and was the former property of the noted naturalist and artist,
John James Audubon.
Checking out the Academy's site I came across their current membership list - a veritable Who's Who in the arts. Not surprisingly, there were scores of Hamptons luminaries including
Chuck Close,
Jane Freilicher,
Jules Feifer,
Edward Albee,
Will Barnett,
Robert Caro,
Cindy Sherman,
Jennifer Bartlett,
Jane Wilson, and
Eric Fischl.
Heady company but then the Academy has always counted great Hamptons talents in its ranks since its founding in 1898 - folks like
William Merritt Chase, those Squiretown Circle painters
Raphael and
Moses Soyer,
David Berliuk, and
Robert Gwathmey, acclaimed writers
Truman Capote and
E.L. Doctrow, artists
Childe Hassam,
Willem de Kooning,
Larry Rivers,
Jimmy Ernst, and
Roy Lichtenstein, and the recently deceased composer
Lukas Foss. Worth the schlep, I'd say.
While the 20th Anniversary of DKNY may not fall in the same category, it is still a piece of fashion history and Bloomingdale's is celebrating our neighbor
Donna Karan in a big way this week with a major fete. This party is complete with Magnolia cupcakes (and how will I fit into my new DKNY, you ask?), exclusive DKNY 20-year cuvée sparkling wine (girlfriend has her own private label bubbly), and the chance to win a gift certificate to one of DKNY's supporting restaurant partners. They'll also be selling the limited edition DKNY tee-shirt. Snap one up - you'll look good as well as feel good knowing that proceeds from the tee-shirt benefit City Harvest's work feeding hungry New Yorkers a cause dear to Donna's heart.
Spring is in the air and so is romance both new and old. East Hampton's
Renee Zellweger has been well chronicled in the tabloids with a new man in her life. Renee has been single for roughly three years following her four-month-marriage to country star
Kenny Chesney. Now she's seeing a lot of MSNBC's
Dan Abrams at places both in the Hamptons and in NYC. Several weeks ago, I told you they were seen canoodling at the American Hotel in Sag Harbor and more recently the pair has been popping up all over Tribeca and Greenwich Village in spots such as the ultra cool Bond Street.
After months of speculation among the Beach Club set, it seems that the oft photographed
Tinsley Mortimer may be back with husband
Topper Mortimer. The young couple seems to be trying to show to friends that they are still very much a couple. The pair turned out arm in arm for the Frick Collection Young Fellows Ball at the St. Regis and was buzzing around the room together - most unusual for the couple who are rarely out in public together as Topper is not as fond of the red carpet scene as Tinsley. We wish them well.
Are they? Aren't they? The Internet and tabloids are all abuzz with the debate of whether
Kimora Lee Simmons and
Djimon Hounsou who are infan-ticpating are already married – and if so is it legal? Seems when the pair were in Djimon's native Benin, Africa they may have, as the saying goes "jumped the broom" in a traditional African wedding ceremony with the bride and groom in dashikis and drummers thumping away while Kimora's little girls
Aoki Lee and
Ming Lee looked on. Kimora and
Russell Simmons finalized their divorce on Jan. 29, 2009, but sources say Kimora and Djimon still haven't filed for a marriage license here - yet. But the new addition to the family is due very soon. Better get a move on kids.

Sean "Diddy" Combs isn't happy about a new, self-published tell-all by a rapper who wrote and performed on some of his songs. In "Dancing With the Devil: How Puff Burned the Bad Boys of Hip-Hop,"
Mark Curry writes that Diddy "cajoled, hoodwinked and bamboozled me for nearly a decade." An artist formerly signed to Diddy's record label, Curry has slammed the star in this chronicle about his days with the rapper's company. Curry was featured on various remixes and collaborations with the rapper but never released a solo album with the label.
Film Alert: Do not miss the just released incredibly uplifting "Phoebe in Wonderland" which was shot almost entirely on the East End last summer. The film features the awesomely talented
Patricia Clarkson of whom I have long been a fan. Locals might remember her from her appearances at the Hamptons International Film Festival - most notably for the first screening of the movie "Pieces of April" which snagged her an Oscar nomination.
In this film which used Riverhead's Roanoke School as a primary location, Patricia plays a teacher who takes Phoebe, played by
Elle Fanning (younger sister of
Dakota Fanning), a nine-year-old who finds herself struggling against the conformity and rules around her and demonstrates signs of Tourette's Syndrome. Phoebe is an intelligent and creative child with a passion for "Alice in Wonderland" and Clarkson as her teacher using eclectic methods casts her in a school production of Alice to try to reach her.
Patricia is as always mesmerizing and just grabs you from the moment you hear her throaty New Orleansian voice that sounds laced with mint juleps. And Elle Fanning is just too amazingly believable for words. I was so glad to hear that Patricia had such a great time on her stay out here. She rented in Southampton Village and loved walking to the beach and dining at Silver's and
75 Main. Southampton, indeed all the Hamptons, seem to have that charm on folks!
