Mayor Michael Bloomberg officially welcomed
Senator Hillary Clinton back to the bosom of her loyal New York and Hamptons following with a very special bash. The speeches were short and pointedly funny, the digs and anecdotes were cute and sweet and
Barack Obama was never mentioned.
Barbara Walters was there applauding along with
Oscar de la Renta,
Isaac Mizrahi,
Tina Brown,
Agnes Gund,
Alan and
Susan Patricof,
Michael Kramer,
Mort Zuckerman,
Felix Rohatyn, and
Catie Marron. Following a performance by the cast of the smash revival "Hair," Hillary told the gang she'd seen the show before any of them were born! Come on Hil, you're not THAT old.

Mariah Carey and
Nick Cannon, who were married in April, finally got to celebrate. The newlyweds were feted at Def Jam chairman
L.A. Reid's Sagaponack home Saturday night. Reid, who knows how to treat a major diva, pulled out all the stops and hired
Andrea Correale of Elegant Affairs to add a little bit more elegance to his beautiful home with flowers and candles. Guests, including
Gwyneth Paltrow,
Mary J. Blige,
Kelly Ripa,
Samuel L. Jackson, and
Star Jones, were clearly partying big time and at midnight the cops were called by cranky neighbors who obviously don't care for festivities. The newlyweds are honeymooning at a farm in East Hampton they rented for $125,000.
While Hillary and Mariah both had reason to party, there'll be no partying for
Heather Graham who is single again. After dating for two years, Graham and her hunky beau
Charles Ferri, former co-owner of the Star Room in Wainscott, have called off their bi-coastal romance. A source close to the two said distance was the issue. Graham was busy filming "Son of Mourning" and "Baby on Board" while Ferri was trying to manage his new club in Dubai (remember I told you about that deal months ago) and the launch of Star Vodka. Friends tell me the constant separation caused by both their careers was the reason for the split.
Also Splitsville are
Dee Ocleppo and fiancé
Tommy Hilfiger. Their wedding slated - for luck - on 08-08-08 never happened. They had picked Friday for their very private wedding on the Caribbean island of Mustique. They also planned a big celebration with friends for Oct. 17 at the Plaza. But no wedding took place. Hence, no big blast. Folks close to the couple are saying it's all very amicable, while others are saying they couldn't come to terms on a pre-nup. Judging by the great men in Dee's past life like
Prince Albert of Monaco and
Bruce Willis, you can be sure she won't be walking the red carpet alone for long.
Living very, very happily are the oh-so social
David and
Julia Koch who will have a special treat in store the next time the avid opera and dance goers visit their beloved Lincoln Center. When the oil-and-gas billionaire and his bride attend a gala performance of the New York City Ballet or City Opera at Lincoln Center, the building they enter in black tie and evening gown will bear his name.
Starting this fall the building will be known as the David H. Koch Theater. The change will become the second planned renaming of a New York institution for a major donor in just four months. David, recently called the wealthiest resident of New York City, has agreed to contribute $100 million towards the renovation of the New York State Theater, which is home to the two companies. His gift will be the largest private capital donation in Lincoln Center's history and a triumph in a period of growing economic uncertainty announced that it would name its main building after another East Ender
Stephen A. Schwarzman in return for a $100 million gift. With an estimated net worth of $17 billion, Koch ranks 10th on
Forbes's list of the nation's wealthiest and 37th on its list of the world's wealthiest individuals.
Diane von Furstenberg is a busy gal these days, between designing her collections and her role as the president of the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA), but she's managing to balance everything just fine, as evidenced by her unanimous re-election to a second two-year term as president of the CFDA two weeks ago, as well as her induction that same day into the Fashion Walk of Fame by the Fashion Center Business Improvement District on New York's Seventh Avenue. Diane rocks!
Also rockin' and cart-wheeling is the very much loved, irrepressible
Betsey Johnson. Her SoHo store in New York pulsed with pretty young things in pretty party frocks for a very special birthday party. As guests tried to beat the heat with glasses of chilled pink champagne, Betsey and her business partner and CEO
Chantal Bacon celebrated the 30th anniversary of their business surrounded by their friends, family and fans. Betsey and Chantal met in 1975 after Bacon moved to New York from London - Bacon was selling Johnson's children's wear line at the time - and they instantly clicked - both sharing a mutual glam rock style sensibility and unbridled energy to make clothes. "We had even dated some of the same men!" said Chantal. They officially launched Betsey Johnson the brand in 1978, on Johnson's birthday, Aug. 10. So Happy B-day Betsey and Happy Anniversary Betsey and Chantal.
Beth Ostrosky is taking her training very seriously for the next New York City Marathon, She's even planning an 18-mile run the morning after her October wedding to
Howard Stern. Her training for the Nov. 2 race is already underway with the Shock Jock joining her three times a week for runs in Central Park and the Hamptons. Ostrosky has been following the New York Road Runners training schedule and will run her first-ever marathon to raise awareness for the North Shore Animal League on Long Island.
Didn't you just love
Paris Hilton - at least for a nanosecond, you know you do - when she immediately ground her Jimmy Choo stilettos into presidential candidate
John McCain who tried to slag Obama by calling him a celebrity like Paris Hilton and
Britney Spears. "Hey, America, I am Paris Hilton and I am a celebrity, too," says Hilton, dressed in an over-the-top, skimpy leopard-print swimsuit. "Only I am not from the olden days and I am not promising change like that other guy. I am just hot." Yo go girl! Buzz around the nabe is that she had a little help from pal
Chris Henchy,
Brooke Shields' hubby.
Nightlife king
Noah Tepperberg celebrated his birthday in style with three days of partying - first at his NYC club Marquee on Thursday, his Hamptons spot Dune on Friday, and Tao Las Vegas on Saturday - he should give party lessons!
Tart-tongued
Rosie O'Donnell, who left the hens at ABC's "The View" in her dust, is now being wooed by the Peacock network to host her own weekly variety show, The network is also said to be courting its own exiting "Tonight Show" guy
Jay Leno for a similar offer. There's talk that O'Donnell's series would be a fallback in case Leno runs to ABC after his contract with NBC expires next year.
The Hamptons hottest dining spots have been packed with their "regulars" that is if you can call Paris Hilton regular. In any event, stargazers have had plenty to stare at besides our beautiful skies.
La Hilton had a bunch of British laddies going ga-ga as she sauntered into the patio at The Drivers Seat. The guys were positively drooling over Paris - who was totally oblivious to their stares - and trying to get the waitress to introduce them. Never happened, 'natch.
Alexa Ray Joel spent three nights in a row at Grappa, Ed "Jean Luc" Kleefield's new joint in Sag Harbor. Guess she likes it!
Cynthia Nixon and her girlfriend
Christine Marinoni have become "regs" at Wei Fun. The couple dined on curry shrimp, vegetable fried rice, pea shoots, and drank tea.
Celebrity chef and prominent cookbook author
Rocco DiSpirito really likes
MUSE Restaurant & Aquatic Lounge. The hunky chef who just loves his Mama's meatballs returned for a second time this week with two guests and went on and on about how much he loves the restaurant and the food. Who is the Mama in the kitchen at MUSE?
Nathan Lane, clearly watching his weight, had a simple burger at
Indian Wells Tavern Sunday night. Probably he was glad to be there and not at Almoncello where
Keith Hernandez and
Rusty Staub and a passel of pals talked baseball all night over Porterhouse steaks and pasta.
Nick & Toni's weekly roll call. Tuesday it was hipsters
Lou Reed and
Laurie Anderson. Thursday seated in the front room during the lightning and hail storm were Velvet Mafia chiefs
Calvin Klein,
David Geffen, and
Sandy Gallin.
Gwyneth Paltrow, not Velvet Mafia, and a group of six and uber restaurateur
Danny Meyer and his wife and friends also took refuge – and sustenance – from the storm.
