From Manhattan to Montauk and all points in between, this is going to be one very merry holiday season for so many of our friends and neighbors!
Just last weekend movie mogul and Hampton's omnipresence Harvey Weinstein tied the knot with his lovely fashion designer gal Georgina Chapman who has already rocketed to the top of the fashion heap with her stunning Marchesa line. You can bet your bottom dollar Harvey's leading ladies will be clad in Marchesa on screen and off – especially on the red carpet.
As well, Hamptons.com Publisher Robert Florio and the beautiful Ellen Cea, of law firm Beigelman Associates, have decided to make it official. Yes, they have set a date, 6, 7, 8. That's how Rob remembers it - June 7, 2008. Sounds like a beach wedding might be in the works. Maybe Harvey can get Georgina to dress the gorgeous bride.
They're not the only Southampton couple that will be dancing down the aisles shortly. Uber publicist and long time rock journalist Elizabeth Derringer introduced her new fiancé Marc Bacine, business manager to rock royalty, to her pals at Le Chef the other night. Liz who was once married to guitarist and music producer Rick Derringer was just tickled to spill the news – if for no other reason than to get her match making friends off her back.
Congrats and Mazel Tov to all!
East Quogue film producer Mike Tadross who co-own the hot Saracens in Wainscott is also breaking out the champagne. Not for a wedding or a rave review from Times' food critics but to celebrate the record breaking opening of his latest film "I Am Legend" starring Will Smith. The movie, which features Will as the last human on Earth unaffected by a vicious virus, has shot off the charts becoming the highest grossing December opening in movie history. No small feat as the big studios all release their huge blockbusters just before the Christmas holidays.
But then Mike is no stranger to box office bonanzas. The savvy producer has produced a string of hits over the years including "Indecent Proposal", "Die Hard: With a Vengeance", "The Devil's Advocate", "Eraser", "Hitch", "Tony N' Tina's Wedding", "Rollerball", "Basic", and one of my personal faves the re-make of the very classy and elegant "The Thomas Crown Affair" (love that
Pierce Brosnan!).
East Hampton's
Barry Sonnenfeld, the triple threat, actor, director and producer, who has brought such crowd pleasers as "Men in Black", "Get Shorty" and "Addams Family Values" to the big screen, is kvelling with delight over the reception of his amazingly original and quirky dramedy for the small screen, the psychedelically colored "Pushing Daisies". Until the Writers Strike hit, there was no way I was going out on Wednesday nights when the show aired. But despite having only a few episodes up, the series received three nominations from the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, as in Golden Globe nominations. The shows leads
Lee Pace and Anna Friel might not be household names but the show and their performances have been critically acclaimed. So it was a great pleasure to see them nominated in the Best Performance category for television comedy series. Ditto for Barry who personally helmed several episodes and exec produced the hilarious and twisted show "He" is most deserving of the Best Comedy Series nod he received.
Up against Daisies is "30 Rock" also with three nominations in the same categories. The show has been tagged for a Best Comedy Series nomination and Tina Fey and
Alec Baldwin (a Hampton's resident who we all love to bits) have also score nods for their singular performances in the show which snipes Saturday Night Live. We love Alec and Tina but Lee and Anna have really caught my heart. We'll see.
Bingo Gubelman, as in the Gubelmans of Southampton, Palm Beach, and New York, along with fellow social scenesters Austin Stark and Benji Kohn may finally lose that dreaded appellation "socialite" now that the film world seems to be treating their production company Paper Street Films with a modicum of respect. Bingo you may recall co-produced with pal Jamie Johnson, as in the Band Aid family of products, the Emmy nominated "Born Rich" which skewered their rich and famous friends. Then he famously dated
Ivanka Trump for a period and club hopped with oil heir Brandon Davis. Now the fledgling film makers have a real honest to God project on their slate, "The Homecoming". Oscar winner
Morgan Freeman will direct and they have just landed Mischa Barton to play the star role of a psychologically unbalanced ex-girlfriend. I'll keep you posted on this one.
And last but certainly not least. New Zealand actress/writer/director the zaftig blonde Anna Wilding is sooooooooo excited that the good people at Tibet House will host a special preview of her new film "Buddha Wild" after the holidays.
That's it for this week. I'm off to finish my shopping for a nice bauble to wear to ring in the New Year and Harry Winston closes in a little while.
Toodles!
