And the winner for Best Celebrity "Get" of Summer 2007 must go to
Jane Rosenthal and
Craig Hatkoff. The couple snared the most photographed couple in the world –
Brad Pitt and
Angelina Jolie – for a quintessentially intimate Hamptons style dinner for some 50+ of the East End's biggest high rollers willing to part with a reported $25,000 a head to break bread with the mega star duo.

Personally I don't know how they could land the helicopter they grabbed out of New York as the fog was real pea soup by 6pm. But land they did in Quogue and taxied out to the party only to zip back and fly out the same night.
In fairness, Jane and Craig, no strangers to the Hollywood A list crowd as co-founders of the Tribeca Film Festival with partner
Robert De Niro, figured – quite rightly it seems - Brangelina could get some very rich people to part with big bucks for a worthy cause, rebuilding Katrina ravaged New Orleans, about which the Hollywood couple are passionate. They have even bought a home in the ravaged Garden District and are working with local officials to channel some of their star power into meaningful restoration.
Jane and Craig know just a wee bit in this area as The Tribeca Film Festival was created partly in a desperate move to bring fresh air to the asbestos befouled air of Lower Manhattan and rebuild a broken community after 9/11. The Tribeca Film Festival has succeeded in re-writing the story of Lower Manhattan. Since the inaugural festival, Lower Manhattan, once covered in rubble and shrouded in loss, has become a thriving cultural and economic center. Could be a great model for Brad and Angelina to follow in New Orleans!
Among the deep pocketed but truly well meaning crowd in attendance were
Christie Brinkley,
Donna Karan,
L.A. Reid,
Ellen Barkin, and
Andre Balazs. The menu featured New Orleans-inspired delicacies including crab cakes, salmon, lamb, lemon pound cake and grilled peaches. Taking advantage of the dense fog that rolled several party crashers were quickly rounded up and given the door.
Insiders say that wealthier guests including
Ira Rennert,
Alan Patricof, and
Bill Rudin were quietly pitched for $500,000 each for the Katrina relief.
Maybe they should have had techno mogul
Michael Hirtenstein on the guest list as he's dropping lots of cash on pricey properties. Last year it was a 10 figure estate in Bridgehampton and now he's laid out $30,000,000 for a New York pad. Michael will be toasting his new acquisition with a bash at his Bridgehampton manse for pals
Russell Simmons,
Dylan Lauren, and
Rory and
Elie Tahari.
Cheers to
Ralph Lauren who will celebrate the 40th anniversary in the business with a lavish dinner for 500 in Central Park's Conservatory Garden and a specially built pavilion on Fifth Avenue and 105th Street.
Congratulations to Bridgehampton Polo gatekeeper
Norah Lawlor who is now flashing a gorgeous Tiffany diamond engagement ring from Brit businessman
Jeffrey Bradford. Word is Miss Norah got the full old fashioned, bended knee proposal from the consultant.
We spied Star Room coowner
Charles Ferri sans girlfriend
Heather Graham eyeing an Aston Martin the Ultimate Luxury Sports Car – the DBS at the Red Cross Evening of Luxury for 150 grand but didn't put up his credit card for it. Instead he flew off to meet Heather to discuss the possible purchase.
The Hamptons International Film Festival turns 15 this year! As part of the celebration the HIFF has commissioned acclaimed East Hampton artist
Billy Sullivan to create a special commemorative poster for the fest. New Line CEO
Michael Lynne, a man who knows great art as well as great films, made the selection which will be unveiled later next month.
From my fellow gossipeuse
Cindy Adams, a few words of wisdom for the Labor Day Weekend: DRIVE safely, tan safely, drink moderately, spend wisely, argue judiciously, cook deliciously, don't fight with your family, don't curse other stupid drivers on the highway, and have a good Labor Day weekend.
Seen Around the Villages
This week
Barbara Walters discovered Style Paris by
Susan Sutherland on Jobs Lane in Southampton and raved about Sutherland's luxurious fabrics. The talk show doyenne made several visits to the shop famed for its couture offerings. Our spies say she settled on at least one item a jewel toned satin swing coat perfect for tossing over a glittering top paired with pencil pants.
One gal is certain to fit into her size 2 trousers.
Cameron Diaz keeps in shape even on vacation. The Hollywood glam gal was spotted taking Elisabeth Halfpapp Core Fusion exercise class at Exhale in Bridgehampton.
"Two and ½ Men" star
Holland Taylor who plays
Charlie Sheen's mom on the hit TV series did some window shopping along Main Street in Southampton stopping to chat with fans in front of H.Groome.
Also in from L.A. for the weekend was Court TV's
Nancy Grace who stayed at the Southampton Inn for a little Hamptons R & R and didn't have to walk far – across the street – to have a great dinner prepared by
Chef Doug Gulija at the award winning Plaza Café.
Kelly Ripa and husband
Mark Consuelos are becoming regulars at MUSE Restaurant and Aquatic Lounge in Water Mill. The good looking couple brought a group of pals to introduce them to the restaurants specialty, Not Ya Mamma's Meatballs and their decadent desserts.
Another repeater,
Katie Couric can't seem to get enough of Turtle Crossings BBQ. At least once a weekend, she drops by for takeout of ribs and chicken with all the fixins' – baked beans, cole slaw and corn bread.
West Coast interior design star
Barclay Butera and a pair of pals took over the primo sidewalk table at
75 Main in Southampton for a little people watching and big bowls of the restaurant's sensational penne Bolognese.
Doing Italian also this weekend were
Katie Lee and
Billy Joel with Food Network's
Giada De Laurentiis at Della Femina in East Hampton.
NBC anchor
Perri Peltz loaded up on veggies at Schmidt's for a little home cooking.
With all the big private dinners and parties attendance was light but
David and
Sybill Yurman held court at their regular table at Nick & Toni's as did
Sally Hershberger, she of the $600 haircuts. Yawn.
