I'm just tickled to tell you that now that
Sarah Jessica Parker and
Kim Cattrall have kissed and made up, production on the film Sex and the City is going ahead full tilt with the original team including
Cynthia Nixon and
Kristen Davis.
Michael Patrick King, who directed the show for several years, is at the helm and
Candace Bushnell can already hear the ca-ching, ca-ching! Word is Kim broke the ice on their frosty relationship by sending Sarah flowers to congratulate her on her new clothing line, Bitten (which I told you about eons ago). Sarah was so pleased that she sent samples from her new line and now they're BFF forever – again.
Lest you elitists think The Hamptons are only about world class artists and writers, you should checkout just how many of our East End neighbors were honored with nominations for their work on television. 30 Rock snared 10 nominations including top comedy acting nod for star
Alec Baldwin and
Elaine Stritch, who plays his mother on the show. Sag Harbor's
Jon Stewart was tapped twice for The Daily Show.
James Lipton and
Susan Lacey received noms for their non-fiction series, Inside the Actors Studio and American Masters respectively. And of course for Auld Lang Syne sake there were the usual tips to The Sopranos' cast including
Lorraine Bracco,
Edie Falco, and
Michael Imperioli.
Our favorite firefighter funnyman
Denis Leary was nominated for Rescue Me.
Eli Wallach, still going strong at 92, picked up a nomination for a guest turn on Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip. Perennial topper
Jerry Seinfeld was also singled out. That's just Prime Time appearances, that doesn't include shows like The View's neighbors
Barbara Walters and
Joy Behar, All My Children's
Kelly Ripa and
Mark Consuelos and scores of writers, directors, designers and the technicians whom you could run into any day on the Main Street of the village of your choice.
Emmy winner
Debra Messing, of Will & Grace fame and now nominated for her role in The Starter Wife, was late to toss out the ball for the first chukker at
Mercedes-Benz Polo Challenge at JetOne Jets Field at Two Trees Farm in Bridgehampton this weekend but when she arrived she was looking as perfectly coiffed and dressed as ever. (I hate her. Call me!)
The best known redhead on TV since
Lucille Ball, Messing mingled with the likes of
Aretha Franklin,
Reggie Jackson,
Katie Lee Joel,
Beth Ostrosky,
B. Smith and
Dan Gasby,
Kim Raver,
Leven Rambin,
Michelle Rodriguez,
Nacho Figueras,
Ralph Lauren,
Vito Schnabel,
James Lipton,
Jeffrey Chowdorow,
Kelly Klein, and scores of other swells under the VIP tent. I hear she'll be in New York in a few weeks to host an event for jewelers Agas and Tamar at
Donna Karan's Urban Zen location in Greenwich Village.
While at the match,
Wilmer Valderrama and
Danny Masterson of "That 70s Show" took turns playing DJ at the Sidekick Lounge as
Bijou Phillips danced the afternoon away.
Still talking Polo…Team Endeavour (
Pablo Spinacci,
Pancho Bensadon,
Larry Austin, and
Ignacio Taverno) defeated Team White Birch (
Santiago Torres,
Miguelito Torres,
Mariano Aguerre, and
Peter Brant). Reggie Jackson, "Mr. October" presented the MVP trophy on behalf of JetOne Jets.
Ellen and
Chuck Scarborough will host a different kind of fashion event next month. The Southampton couple is opening their lovely home to the folks from Ellen's Run for Sneaker del Arte, an auction of
Stephen Marbury athletic shoes creatively done up by such Hamptonites as
Billy Joel,
Ross Bleckner,
Robert Wilson,
Betsey Johnson and dozens more creative types. The event will benefit the
Ellen P. Hermanson Foundation, an organization which is dedicated to raising funds to provide important services to those diagnosed with breast cancer.
The benefit is being dedicated to the memory of
Cynthia Scarborough, Chuck's sister, who succumbed to breast cancer three years ago. You may be familiar with Ellen's Run which is the largest running event in the Hamptons, garnering the support of over 1000 participants each year raising funds for programs on the East End only! Super gals
Julie Ratner,
Patti Kenner, and
Blossom Gluck are among the social engines behind the bash.
At the Miracle House fundraiser last week, we spied the enormously talented singer
Josh Kelley of You Tube fame and now with a big deal with Hollywood Records. We were dying to ask him about his upcoming wedding to sexy
Katherine Heigl of Grey's Anatomy who was also just Emmy nominated. We hear it's to be a white winter wedding in snowy Utah where Katherine has a ranch. I've been imaging horse drawn sleighs ala Doctor Zhivago but he was swept away before I could even say my name. Damn! He's a cutie.
Cad about town
Peter Cook, who's been seen in the company of a prominent realtor close to his own age at major events, is up to his old tricks chasing much younger women on the club scene til the wee hours. I guess its true, leopards can't change their spots.
The Chopper Wars are in full pitch battle with local residents railing about the helicopter filled skies overhead that are not only disturbing the pastoral calm but worry some folks about accidents. They all might want to save their time writing impassioned letters to the editor. On the other island, there's a move afoot to shut down the 30th Street helipad led by Friends of Hudson River Park recently wrote the Hudson River Park Trust calling for its removal.
Now the moguls are weighing in on the dispute.
Donald Trump, NBC's
Bob Wright, and
Robert F.X. Sillerman are among those who have written to the Hudson River Park Trust urging the agency to keep the heliport open. Mayor
Michael Bloomberg, a billionaire himself, has said, "The city needs heliports if we're going to keep big business here. Companies have to be able to move their people in and out of the city". Like to The Hamptons I guess? Stay tuned.
Claudia Cohen, the ex-wife of business mogul
Ron Perelman, who passed away several weeks ago, left the bulk of her $60 million fortune to the couple's teenage daughter,
Samantha. Cohen, whose "I, Claudia" column appeared in the Daily News, also left her money and personal treasures to charities, her college newspaper and friends ranging from designer
Carolina Herrera and hotelier
Ian Schrager to several longtime employees.
In a will filed in Manhattan Surrogate's Court, Cohen gave $10 million to the Spence School on the upper East Side, $5million to the Alzheimer's Association and $1 million to the University of Pennsylvania's The Daily Pennsylvanian, "which meant so much to me and my career." Among the personal possessions to be given to Cohen's friends were a Fabergé cigarette case to Herrera, a
Robert Mapplethorpe photograph to Vanity Fair writer
Bob Colacello, a collection of alligator bags, and pairs of Van Cleef & Arpels earrings.
Justin Timberlake was a little camera shy the other night at the opening of his new restaurant, Southern Hospitality. J.T. tapped former 'N Sync bandmate
Lance Bass and his boyfriend,
Pedro Andrade, to run interference while he slid out a side door. In another part of town Lance Bass ex
Reichen Lehmkuhl debuted his Fly Naked With Reichen jewelry line at Splash Bar in New York but it was clear his favorite accessory is new boyfriend
Ryan Barry a personal trainer whom he met in Laguna Beach.
Tracy Turnblad, aka
Nicki Blonsky the star of the juggernaut Hairspray, is positively glowing. Two New York charities may be among the institutions thankful for the public's embrace of the new movie Hairspray, as they stand to receive money raised in an online auction of costumes and props from the movie. The sale of more than 60 items is taking place on eBay, and proceeds will go to Citymeals-on-Wheels, which supports more than 100 organizations that deliver meals to New York's elderly homebound population, and the Harry Holmberg Memorial Fund, which supports palliative care for ailing children.
Seen Around the Villages
Kelsey Grammer was spotted picking up a pair of U.S. flag swim shorts at Vilebrequin's Southampton boutique on Jobs Lane after a quick visit to Harmont & Blaine. Doors down, Theory is a special spot for designer goodies and had
Jessica Seinfeld in with her charge cards blazing.
You don't have to hit the clubs for some great live music. Thanks to the new town rulings music's in the air in a lot of local eateries. Drummer
Chad Smith of The Red Hot Chili Peppers jammed with local fave
Nancy Atlas at Authentic Mexican Kitchen in Amagansett. Estia Cantina continues its very popular jazz nights with sponsor WLIU.
Foodie Notes: The eagerly awaited and welcome addition to the culinary scene Townline BBQ finally opened its doors for all those smoky meat aficionados who've been salivating to sink their teeth in some good old fashioned Texas 'cue. Kudos to
Mark Smith,
Chef Joe Realmuto, and
Toni Ross of Nick & Toni's fame for hanging in there.
On the very first night, old friend
Ina Garten of The Barefoot Contessa empire stopped by to sample the chilis and fried cherry pie.
BBQ with a South of the Border twist and a kid-friendly atmosphere are the draws for
such celebs with kiddies as
Gwyneth Paltrow and
Christy Turlington and hubby
Ed Burns. For dessert with the brood it's Scoop du Jour in East Hampton where
George Stephanopoulos,
Faith Popcorn, and
Tommy Hilfiger all stopped by for cones with kids in tow.
Nobu impresario
Richie Notar set up his sushi "outpost" at a benefit for East Hampton's Ross School. Porsche is provided free transport home for anybody who'd had too much sake. He's slated to do several more dinners this weekend.
Taking in the sunset and harbor view at East Hampton Point were A Bronx Tale's
Chazz Palmentieri and pals.
Debra Messing made the most of her short visit for Polo and dined at Almondito and
Rowdy Hall.
Roll Call at Nick & Toni's this week:
April Gornik and
Eric Fischl,
Ron Delsener, and
Ross Bleckner.
