Every day someone was calling me about thinking they spotted
William H. Macy and even possibly his wife Desperate Wives' star
Felicity Huffman. Now Jen can tell you that Hollywood's indie film king and queen have indeed taken up residence here for a few weeks while Felicity is filming "Phoebe in Wonderland" a comedy written by
Ben Barnz who is making his directorial debut with this feature.
Phoebe, played by
Elle Fanning the younger sister of the precocious
Dakota Fanning, is a rebellious little girl who constantly clashes with the rule-obsessed authority figures in her life. The always fabulous
Patricia Clarkson plays an unconventional teacher to whom Phoebe turns for help. This week the cast which also features
Bill Pullman was filming at the Roanoke Elementary School in Riverhead to the delight of locals. The delight (especially for the kids) turned to thrills when Elle's big sister, Dakota, made a surprise visit to the set to check on her sibling.
Meanwhile, the Huffman-Macy clan has become regulars at
Tim Burke's popular
75 Main in Southampton just loving
Randall Reiss' menu. When bartender
John Matthews offered to make her his signature Wisteria-tini created last summer in honor of the ladies of Wisteria Lane, Huffman passed on the sweet but potent concoction saying, "No thanks, I'm a whiskey kind of gal". You go Felicity!
Getting Buzzed is comedian
Jerry Seinfeld and with good reason. His latest animated venture, "Bee Movie", has got all of Hollywood abuzz. Jerry who has been keeping a low profile since his show about "nothing" went into never ending world wide syndication became so excited about his concept for a wild look at the lives of the pollen collectors he contacted neighbor
Steven Spielberg and
Jeffrey Katzenberg. The Dreamworks duo flipped over the idea of Jerry's computer animated tale of life in a hive and his point of view. "Bees have the only perfect society on earth. They have no crime, they have no drugs, they have no rape. A little rape, but it's not that bad", he dead panned to a reporter.
Seinfeld plays Barry B. Benson a college educated worker bee that meets a florist (
Renee Zellweger) and ends up in a battle with the human race over their rampant consumption of honey.
Chris Rock comes to his aid as Mooseblood the mosquito.
Not able to wait for its November release date, Seinfeld took over a little screening room - The Museum of Modern Art - for a private preview of the kid-friendly flick for his pals and the cast which include Rock and co-star
Matthew Broderick (who plays Barry's friend, Adam).
Jeffrey Katzenberg, the other third of the Dreamworks trio, hosted the preview of the movie which also features
Barry Levinson and
Kathy Bates (as Barry's parents),
Oprah Winfrey (as the trial judge),
John Goodman (as a slimy human lawyer),
Ray Liotta (as the greedy marketer of Ray Liotta Honey), and
Sting (who gets hauled into court for stealing a registered bee concept).
Guests got to watch about thirty minutes of clips from the unfinished film, and listen to the funny folks kibbitz. "How did I wind up doing this?" Jerry wondered aloud. "After the TV series, I didn't really want to do anything. I really still don't." But his passion pulled him out of his doldrums. "I love bees", he said. Word is he'll go on the road doing stand up once the film opens.
Seinfeld and Broderick are old pals, as are their wives who were on hand to support their fellas.
Sarah Jessica Parker had little son
James Wilkie in tow and
Jessica Seinfeld, who had injured her arm, had a white satin sling to match her dress.
While we are talking about Miss. Renee, I would be remiss if I didn't share with you her recent honor by the prestigious Hollywood Women in Film. Looking fantastic in her slim strapless cream dress, Renee got all choked up as
Harvey Weinstein sang her praises and presented her with the evening's highest honor, the Crystal Award.
Though there were a few token men present including
Steven Spielberg and
Mike Medavoy, the night was all about honoring women who have achieved great things on the Hollywood scene. From
Shonda Rhimes, the African-American creator/executive producer of Grey's Anatomy received the Lucy Award, along with "the women of Grey's Anatomy" including
Kate Walsh,
Chandra Wilson, and
Sara Ramirez.
Blythe Danner inaugurated the Paltrow Mentorship Award which was presented to producer
Kathleen Kennedy, while
Nicola Maramotti of the MaxMara clothing empire handed
Emily Blunt the MaxMara Award as the breakthrough star of the year. Emily wore a silver beaded MaxMara dress; in fact, half the women in the room seemed to have raided Maramotti's closet, including host
Kristen Chenoweth, Danner, Wilson,
Tracee Ellis Ross,
Regina King and
Cheryl Hines.
Diane Keaton wore her trademark slacks and gloves and became a little bawdy when she presenting her "Something's Gotta Give" (filmed here in the Hamptons) writer-director
Nancy Meyers the group's Dorothy Arzner Award, but it was Meyers herself who got the biggest guffaws of the night with her remark about the state of women in Hollywood today:
"What's up with those women in Hollywood who try giving women a bad name? The ones who think it's okay to drink and drive, and they don't wear underwear? I understand burning your bra, but it is NOT okay not to wear underpants!" Yes!
I just learned that
Donald Trump of the big hair is casting a new reality show out here, Party Girls. They are reportedly looking for attractive "good girls and bad girls". Somebody let Paris know. She's not busy.
On a classier note, please know ten years after his tragic death,
Gianni Versace is getting a street named after him in Milan.
Mayor Letizia Brichetto-Arnaboldi Moratti and the Teatro Della Scala will stage a series of special events next month to pay tribute to Versace on the 10th anniversary of his death. The high point of the commemoration will be the debut of
Maurice Bejart's new ballet entitled, 'Grazie Gianni con Amore'- 'Thank You Gianni With Love' – to be staged in La Scala on Sunday July 15. Also on that day, the City of Milan will honour Gianni Versace's memory by naming a public square after him. A Gala dinner will be staged in his honor after the ballet performance in Milan's Sala delle Cariatidi at Palazzo Reale.
On the eve of the company he co-founded with
Stephen Schwarzman going public in the sixth largest IPO in US history,
Peter Peterson and his wife
Joan Ganz Cooney tossed a party for his daughter, Emmy Award winning producer
Holly Peterson at the Four Seasons to celebrate the publication of Holly's first novel The Manny. The Grill Room bash attracted a veritable who's who in the cross over worlds of finance, media and society. No surprise as the book has been cocktail part buzz for quite sometime since news broke that Holly snared a million dollar advance (for two books) and a movie deal.
Swirling around the room were
Ghislaine Maxwell,
Liz Smith and old friend
Iris Love,
Barbara Walters,
George Stephanopoulos,
Diane Sawyer,
Dayle Haddon,
Marina Rust,
Mort Zuckerman,
Susan Fales Hill, and
Paige Peterson.
