Talk Around Town

Watch out Calvin, word is out that Donna Karan's next fashion foray will be the highly lucrative men's undies business teaming up with hot brand 2 x-ist. We'd like to know when she's auditioning models as we'd like to become better acquainted with some cute boys in tighty whities.

Cart wheeling designer Betsey Johnson, whose East Hamptons digs are surprisingly a cozy cottage in the woods, is entering the home furnishing business. We're seeing shocking pink tulle trimmed pillowcases in our sleep already.

Further fashion findings: Andrea Lieberman designer and super stylist who helped BFF Gwen Stefani make the leap from rocker to 7th Avenue sweetheart is know crafting elegant jewels for Mouwad, the venerable jewelry house. No rhinestones for this Southampton gal – only the real deal – diamonds, rubies, sapphires, you get the picture.

While we're talking fashion and when aren't we? We must figure out a way to juggle all the runway shows, showroom visits, and parties for all our Hamptons design friends during Olympus Fashion Week. We definitely hope we're not forced to choose between DK, CK, and RL.

We heard Star Island Marina owner Sam Gershowitz and his lovely wife Marlena are selling their Bel Air-esque villa on Wyandanch to build a new home on Halsey Neck Lane overlooking Taylor Creek. The passionate vintage car collector simply needs more garage space for his 16 classic Cadillacs, Rolls, and Ferraris et al. Their current manse complete with a natural Koi pond stocked with over 300 of the exotic swimmers has room for only 12 cars! We need to do that to accommodate our shoe collection that is starting to rival Imelda Marcos and our BFF Kimora Lee Simmons.

Can't believe that it's been 30 years since JAWS made us all think twice about splashing in the surf. But it is and Guild Hall is celebrating the film's creators and star – Steven Spielberg, David Koepp, and Roy Scheider - with a special screening, Q & A, and VIP reception catered by Nick & Toni's. Scheider's pet project the Hayground School benefits from the evening, Thursday, August 24th.

Here's a tip for art junkies, artist Richard Burton is opening his house and the former studio of Elaine de Kooning for the first time on August 26 to help out his buddies at Unbound Theater.

Dance patron Linda Stocknoff told us over an elegant lunch of lobster salad and champagne at her bayside retreat that heartthrob choreographer David Parsons is back from Brazil and readying his troupe for their gig at Westhampton Beach Performing Arts Center. Linda's in a quandary of over where to take the dancers for dinner post show. I offered to cook for DP but that seemed to pass over her head! Girl's gotta try.

Hot Party Alert! BlueStar Jets Todd Rome and wife Carol never do things half way and we here they are pulling out all the stops for their second Red Hot Cross Ball on their magnificent estate this weekend.

Patti Kenner who is always behind the most important causes is opening her beautifully landscaped Egypt Lane home for a big old-fashioned barbecue to support Ellen's Run and her good friend Dr. Julie Ratner who founded the organization in honor of her sister journalist Ellen Hermonson who lost her life to cancer. You can be sure the crowd munching burgers will be an amazingly eclectic and fascinating group.

While we're not real big sports fans, we are definitely looking forward to the 58th Annual Artists and Writers Softball game this weekend in East Hamptons Herrick Park. Local legend Leif Hope has for almost three decades filled his teams with Hollywood stars, famous novelists, journalist and politicians. Alec Baldwin, Roy Scheider, Bob Balaban, Ken Auletta, Mercedes Ruehl, Mike Lupica, and Eric Ernst will be donning jerseys and His Honor Rudy Giuliani will umpire. Just got work that Tony award winning actress Christine Ebersole who'll reprise her tour de force performance in Grey Gardens on Broadway this fall will sing the National anthem. No Little Edie Beale here – this lady's got pipes!
