- Here is what I have spied this frozen cold week in February! As we brace ourselves for more miserable weather coming our way, why not picture ourselves in the sunny warmth of Lake Como, Italy?
Word has it that George Clooney
is selling his beloved villa on Lake Como due to the unbelievable levels of harassment by the paparazzi. Clooney purchased the villa in 2002 for a rumored $10 million.
Last summer after Clooney became involved with girlfriend Elisabetta Canalis
, a television personality and former Italian showgirl, the villa was pretty much staked out by the paparazzi for the entire summer season.
Numerous incidents during this time period seem to have pushed Clooney over the edge. Apparently photographers climbed over the wall which surrounds the villa, and in one outrageous episode, took long lens photos of a 13-year-old house guest as she changed her clothes in one of the villas guest rooms. This apparently was the last straw. Can we blame him? Clooney has taken legal action against the magazine which hired the photographer as well as the photographers themselves.
Clooney said "I don't know about the law in the United States, but in Italy it's illegal for photographers to climb over my wall and to take long lens pictures of a 13-year-old girl in her bedroom," he said. "I draw the line of privacy at that." The law in Italy does not allow trespassing nor the photographing or publication of photos of minors. It also does not allow long lens photos of celebrities or their guests while they are in private on private property. What a novel idea?
Charlie Sheen (with Brooke Mueller) is headed to rehab again.
Perhaps with the sale of Clooney's villa he might look for a beachfront estate near Madonna's, and join us here in the Hamptons where we are much more respectful of a stars privacy? Just asking...
star of "Two and Half Men,"
has followed his wife Brooke Mueller
into rehab, though they are at separate facilities. This follows the actor being charged with felony menacing and assault after the alleged Christmas Day attack of his wife at the their Aspen vacation rental home. Sheen and Meuller have 11 month old twins; that are currently being cared for by his parents Janet
and Martin Sheen
Is "Dancing with the Stars" still a sensation? Well if so here is some news on the cast. Though the official cast won't be revealed until March 1, rumor has it that Pamela Anderson
will be strapping on her cha cha heels to make a return to TV as a contestant. An unconfirmed source says "Pam is thrilled and so is the show."
Major Manhattan real estate mover and shaker Keith Rubenstein
owner of real estate firm Somerset Partners
has filed a lawsuit against the owners of his Summer 2009 rental. He rented a "luxury" house last summer on Southampton's Meadow Lane, and claims it was a "dump" - after spending $195,000 for the six week rental. According to lawyer Larry Hutcher
, "The conditions were terrible, it's not what he expected, and it's certainly not what he paid for." Problems ranged from barely working air conditioning, non working appliances, a broken jacuzzi, dead landscaping, broken patio umbrellas, cracked pool steps, loose splintered and broken deck boards, loose patio stones which were dangerous, a broken pool heater, and a badly overgrown beach access path.
Pamela Anderson head to "Dancing with the Stars."
Rubenstein - whom has a posh Manhattan brownstone - rented the Norman Jaffe
designed, seven bedroom Meadow Lane property for August and part of September in summer 2009 for himself and family. His wife was photographed for a magazine spread while there.
The lawsuit is looking for the home's owner, Mid-Summer Dream LLC
, to return a quarter of the $195,000 rent
along with $19,500 security deposit. The home is valued at approximately $14.8 million according to a Hampton's real estate website.
The entertainment news show "EXTRA" has hired Rachel Uchitel
as on air reporter for nightclubs and "hot spots." Uchitel, who used to be a VIP Room hostess at the nightclub Pink Elephant in Southampton, and also worked the door at Tao
/Las Vegas, was Tiger Woods'
first revealed mistress. She was recently interviewed by Mario Lopez
on a recent episode of "EXTRA," and really made an impression on the show's producers - so much so - that she was offered a job.
Uchitel's fiancé passed away in the 9-11 attacks on the World Trade Center, and three years later she was married very briefly and quickly divorced. She also spent time with Woods, a basketball player, musicians, a Broadway
Star, and the married "Bones" actor David Boreanaz
. This is a very busy gal.
Lennegan & Marantz, formerly of Bridgehampton are high end makers of custom English upholstered furniture and are opening on Main Street, Southampton next to Old Town Crossing
Home Furnishings & Design Firm in the old Brambles Furniture space ending weeks of speculation over what was happening with that location, this follows the rumors that Marc Jacobs
will also be opening on the East side of Main Street in Southampton. All this happening across the street from the going out of business Villeroy & Boch.
As you drive up Jobs
Lane and down Main Street in Southampton, it certainly looks a lot healthier these days then the countless vacant store fronts throughout Main Street and Newtown Lane in East Hampton. Can someone get these stores to paper over these empty windows with Historic Hampton scenes so as not to be so depressing? Off season is bad enough as it is!
