The Material Girl Madonna set to scoop up lots of acreage in the Hamptons. (PatrickMcMullan.com)

Southampton - This week sees Madonna in Brazil the home of her love interest Jesus Luz, she will be viewing the Valentine's Day Samba Parade on February 14 from the private box of Rio di Janeiro's Governor Sergio CabralI. In the meantime the Hamptons seem to be turning into her very own "Material World." Madonna is certainly getting set for this coming Summer Season! Maybe even getting set for a hunkered down siege! After buying Kelly Klein's 30-acre Horse Farm "Wild Ocean Farm," in Bridgehampton for $6.5 million as a place for her horses she is now rumored to be also buying the 24 acres next to "Wild Ocean Farm" for $2.2 million.

On top of that she is looking at the property next to these two spreads as a residence for her staff. It seems that do to zoning laws, she cannot build a house on "Wild Ocean Farm" so she needs a place to put her staff so she is looking at a nearby $2.75 million house. The house is currently owned by Michael Minkoff, a friend of Gwyneth Paltrow.

The house has four bedrooms, a pool with pool house, and additional barns. It was built in the 1930s. With all of this one would would have to assume the following - the horses are headed to "Wild Ocean Farm," the staff to the Minkoff property and Madonna herself should be building her own residence on the 24 acres? We will have to see!

In the meantime, for this season while she sorts it all out, she has rented the home of Lowell Shulmann in East Hampton. "Coxwould" is on Lily Pond Lane and is a stunning English Manor House on two acres with beautiful gardens. Madonna grabbed it for the season for $425,000. It certainly seems the Material Girl is coming to town! It has been said she has asked for the option to keep "Coxwould" year-round.

Chef Matthew Guiffrida from Muse Restaurant in Water Mill, has been invited to be the guest chef at the James Beard Foundation in Manhattan on March 12. His dinner entitled "All in the Family" will feature cuisine prepared by himself, along with his sister Chef Shari Guiffrida of the Moon Brook Country Club and his sister-in-law Chef Angela Guiffrida of The Biltmore Estate in Asheville, NC. For the main course they will be offering Escolar Milanese with Fennel Chop Salad and Chilean Sea Bass Zeppole with Béarnaise Mousse. When it comes to the Guiffridas, culinary talent blesses every branch of the family tree. This gifted family trio will reunite at the Beard House to prepare a playful and creative menu that spans the globe.

The dinner begins in the conservatory of the James Beard Foundation Townhouse in Manhattan and then adjourns upstairs to the former living quarters for the seated dinner. Tickets are $125 to $165 and are available by calling the foundation at 212-627-2308 or at www.jamesbeard.org, this is a very sophisticated evening of cuisine paired with excellent wines from Mike Degennaro of Southampton Wines in Water Mill. Don't miss this perfect excuse to flee the freezing Hamptons!

I spoke with Jill Kandel of the Hamptons Chapter of The American Heart Association and they are having a very sweet event on February 27th at the beautiful Four Season Caterers in Southampton. Jill told me; "I am so excited to say we are gearing up for our first Hamptons kick-off event for 2010 – The Second Annual Sweet Heart Dessert Challenge. Everyone had a fantastic time last year and we hope to do the same again this year. We have a new venue - The Four Seasons Caterers in Southampton which promises to be a fantastic location for the event. Mark your calendars for Saturday, February 27!"

This is a great way to spend a Saturday night in February! Come out with your friends and enjoy music, drinks, good and tasting desserts! There will be approximately nine bakers that will be bringing a sampling of a special dessert. The dessert that is voted best will then be served at the Heart of the Hamptons Gala Ball in June. To attend this sweet tooth event, tickets are $50 and all proceeds go to The American Heart Association.

Matthew Broderick to star in new sitcom.

Matthew Broderick star of screen and Broadway, is set to star in the new sitcom "Beach Lane," the 47 year old Broderick is set to star in the new show which will be set in the Hamptons. The plot seems to have Broderick playing an author whom is hired by the wealthy owner of an ailing news publication in the Hamptons. He is brought in to save the publication and bring it back to life. Not something we are strangers too here in the Hamptons! Mathew and his wife Sarah Jessica Parker currently reside in Amagansett. The producer of this new series is Lorne Michaels of "Saturday Night Live."

Interior designer Nate Berkus is set to get his own show, "The Nate Berkus Show," an updated friendly version of the "Martha Stewart Show." He will be taking the coveted spot leading in for the very popular "Ellen Degeneres Show." "The Nate Bekus Show" will be debuting this Fall. It was announced jointly by NBC Local Media, with Oprah Winfrey's Harpo Productions and Sony Pictures Television, this gives the show an opening in more then a quarter of America's households, including a position in each of the six largest markets. The show will focus on lifestyle, entertainment and personal growth, and will have a diverse mix of subjects and guests. The show will feature Berkus, whom is a protégé of Winfrey's, and it is rumored the show may be produced at Oprah Winfrey's Harpo Studios in Chicago.

Berkus has been a regular on "The Oprah Winfrey Show" in recent years, and has become the star of many design blogs and been featured in many design magazines including the sadly missed DOMINO. He also hosts a show on Winfrey's Sirius XM satellite radio channel. Rachael Ray, Dr. Oz and Dr. Phil all ended up doing exceedingly well on television after participating in the "The Oprah Winfrey Show."

Ellen Degeneres replaces Paula Abdul on "American Idol."

This comes as great news for NBC who just learned that Martha Stewart is leaving NBC and taking her very popular show to the Hallmark Channel at the end of this season. The "Nate Berkus Show" I'm sure will be viewed by many as a fabulous, update replacement with a big following.

Berkus opened his own Design Firm, Nate Berkus and Associates at the age of 24 and then went on to design the restaurants of Wolfgang Puck and do extensive work for W Hotels and Barney's, as well as countless private clients.

Speaking of Ellen Degeneres. Ellen debuted on the Tuesday, February 9 episode of "American Idol." Inheriting the spot left vacant by Paula Abdul. Ellen dived head long into the experience, commenting "I had one idea of Simon when I came in, and it's changed. He is actually meaner." Ouch!

Will Ellen fill the zany shoes of Paula? It will be interesting to see if she takes a serious approach, or a more off the wall approach to judging.

Paula, though certainly off the wall, was a sensation with fans that endlessly followed her, watching for her trademark bewildering and zany antics!

Recent rumors have swirled that Howard Stern was being considered as a possible replacement for the departing Simon Cowell. Ellen has been very vocal in her opposition to this move, having been heard by one staffer as saying "Ellen has told just about anyone who will listen that she's totally opposed to the [Howard Stern] idea."

Simon is leaving to host "The X Factor" a show he created in England, and Stern is one of the names which have been floated as a possible replacement. Degeneres apparently has been clear that she will leave just as quickly as she arrived if Stern was to be hired. Other names being touted as choices for Cowell's replacement are Tommy Mottola, Guy Oseary, Jimmy Iovine and Jamie Foxx! Now Jamie would bring a whole new perspective and can sing! At this time it seems to all be rumors with no official statement from FOX Television.
Being a show that the American family tunes in to watch together, Stern seems like an unlikely choice. Stern himself was quoted this week as saying that "They'd have to pay me a ton of dough" to take the "Idol" job.

It seems designer Tory Burch has been making some moves. Word has it that Burch and a neighbor have split the property on Ox Pasture Lane, formerly owned by the late Howard Gittis. Burch's $16 million purchase comes with the mansion and six acres, the neighbor will take the remaining 7.5 acres of vacant land for $16.5 million.

Though it is on tony Ox Pasture Lane, in the estate section of Southampton, this is the biggest sale for a property not located on the water since the economic crash. It was a Tim Davis/Southampton Corcoran Real Estate listing.
