Do you shop online so much your UPS delivery person knows your dog? Take a break from America’s sequester sport. Shop local. Become a Hamptons Holiday Shopper, and benefit Stony Brook Southampton Hospital. This Saturday, December 12, grab some hot chocolate and gingerbread cookies (courtesy of Hampton Coffee Company) at the pop-up Hamptons Holiday Shop Coffee Stop at The Baker House’ garden, between 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. You might even win a BMW X3 two-year lease, courtesy of Jay Decker, BMW Southampton. Sign up for free. Pick a number between one and 2,000. The winner gets the lease.
The Saturday celebration is the keystone of an event that benefits the hospital, local businesses and shoppers alike. East End stores and restaurants participate according to their comfort level to support the new East Hampton Emergency Department or the Southampton Hospital Foundation. Shoppers who sign up will be privy to local promotions and discounts. Did you know the Hampton Jitney is having a holiday sale? Now you will.
It’s the brainchild of Mirella Cameran-Reilly, Hospital Executive Director of Special Events. She was inspired by the hospital’s summer “Gala in Your Garden” event, for which local venders catered and decorated hosts’ backyard tables for small groups. “We loved working solely within our community,” Mirella told us. “After all, in March, when we needed them, they donated food and supplies.”
“COVID 19 has created unplanned expenditures for the hospital and the community,” she continued. “We still need to fundraise for our regular costs and projects. So, we’re asking everyone to think before they click. We all know how convenient online shopping is. But, whether it’s food or clothing for the holidays you want, please, buy local. Let’s keep the vibrant vendors we love alive.”
Businesses participating in the HHS, that runs until December 31, include: 71 Studio Spa, Bonne Nuit East Hampton, cindy chang wellness, Claude’s Restaurant, Curated by Thuyen, East End Taste, East Hampton Gardens, Ed’s Lobster Bar, Elegant Affairs, Frances Valentine, The Golden Pear, Hampton & Dune, Hampton Coffee Company, Hampton Jitney, Hamptons Moms, J. Crew, Janet O’Brien, J. McLaughlin, Joey Wolffer, K-Pasa, Kirna Zabete, Matriark, Mecox Bay Dairy, Peserico, Plain T, Sea Green Designs, Set Point Tennis, Shan, Southampton Inn, Tenet, The Monogram Shop, Therapy Life & Style, tutto il giorno, Urban Zen, Wölffer Estate Vineyard, and Zadeh.
With a vaccine on the horizon, hopefully we are in the pandemic’s final stretch. “Stay the course” remains the message from hospital Chief Administrative Officer Bob Chaloner and Chief Medical Officer/Chief Operating Officer Fred Weinbaum, MD.
“Stay home and celebrate the holidays with the people around you,” Mirella says. “Don’t get fed up. Stick with it. Ten people or less, indoors or outdoors. Don’t let your guard down. People are still really getting sick.”
So, shop and support the community that supports you. You may even drive home with a shiny SUV. We are all interconnected. Thanks to local donations, Stony Brook Southampton Hospital has the beds, the ventilators and the staff to take care of us. They also will have the vaccine. Need we say more?
