A Memorial Day weekend Hamptons tradition, the annual Edie’s Backyard BBQ, will take place on Saturday, May 25 from 1 to 4 p.m. at a private residence in Southampton.
Hosted by Edie Windsor’s widow, Judith M. Kasen-Windsor and longtime friend Jimmy Mack, the afternoon will celebrate the legacy of the LGBTQ+ rights trailblazer, whose landmark case granted same-sex married couples federal recognition, while supporting the David E. Rogers, M.D. Center at Stony Brook Southampton Hospital, soon to be named the Edie Windsor Center.
“I am so delighted to host this event in Edie’s honor with the support of so many friends,” Kasen-Windsor reflected. “The new Edie Windsor Center at Stony Brook Southampton Hospital, which will provide much needed healthcare to the community on the East End, is a very fitting tribute to an incredible woman and LGBTQ+ rights trailblazer.”
Established in 1994, the David E. Rogers, M.D. Center provides a myriad of outpatient services for those living with HIV/AIDS. The Edie Windsor Center will offer a more comprehensive range of health services to the LGBTQ+ community, while The Rose Walton Care Services will maintain operation under the auspices of the new Edie Windsor Center.
This year, Edie’s Backyard BBQ special guests will include Alphonso David, Chief Counsel to Governor Andrew M. Cuomo, New York Assembly Member Rebecca A. Seawright, New York Assembly Member Fred W. Thiele Jr., New York State Senator Brad Hoylman, New York State Senator Kenneth P. LaValle, Suffolk County Legislator Bridget Fleming, Southampton Town Supervisor Jay Schneiderman and Jean Shafiroff, philanthropist and author.
The afternoon will feature BBQ courtesy of The Golden Pear Café, as well as summer sounds by DJ Karin Ward.
Judith M. Kasen-Windsor and Jimmy Mack includes Brian Mott, Mark Masone, former Southampton Town Councilman Stan Glinka, Eric Scott Baker and William Kapfer are serving as the Edie’s Backyard BBQ host committee.
