The Neo-Political Cowgirls (NPC) will once again take over the Stephen Talkhouse to host an epic showdown of local musicians during its third annual Battle of the Fantasy Girl Bands Night on Saturday, February 2.
“The Battle of the Fantasy Girl Bands is such a delicious event because it fully encapsulates the root mission of our company,” Kate Mueth, The Neo-Political Cowgirls Founder, relayed. Mueth established the not-for-profit dance theater company in 2002 to create theater opportunities for and projects from the outlook of women and those that are often under-represented.
From 7 to 10 p.m. the ladies of Long Island will belt out their best with the hopes of taking home the highly coveted Mighty Headdress. Headliners will include Jolie Parcher and Bad Reputation, Dianne Leverrier and Dangerous Curves, Dorothea Sacks and DINC (an all teenage band), Yuka Silvera and The Cherry Bombs, Anne Chaisson and The 501 Key 3’s, Nikki Butler and The Bitchin’ Queens, Holly Li and Ova Flo, and Sue DeLara and The Slots.
“Our professional performances all the way through our educational out reach programming are based in the power of facing fears and stepping up into our greater selves via the story engine that is the arts,” Mueth explained. “When women are boldly free to express themselves in creative, musical, joyous and artistic ways, we all feel the positive benefits.”
Iris Smyles will serve as MC of the evening, which will also boast an “amped up karaoke competition,” several exciting raffle prizes, dance breaks, audience participation, an appearance from house band spitnktn, and more.
“This event is raucous and wild and incredibly fun for all of us in our community,” she added. “We are incredibly grateful to the Stephen Talkhouse, to the supportive organizations generously donating to our auction, to the powerhouse women performing onstage, the wonderfully encouraging audience and as always to our tireless producers Christine Sciulli and Holly Li.”
Top honors will be decided by sptnktn and DJ Twilo.
“It’s a truly magical village here on the East End and we are gloriously empowered because of it,” Mueth added.
Tickets to the third annual Battle of the Fantasy Girl Bands Night are $20 in advance and $25 at the door. Proceeds from the evening will support The NeoPolitical Cowgirls’ education youth programs.
