This year's honorary co-chairs include Hilaria Baldwin
and Alec Baldwin
, Cornelia Guest
, Carey Lowell
, Jill Rappaport
and Beth Ostrosky Stern
. The evening will honor last year's Get Wild hosts April Gornik
and Eric Fischl
, as well as Amy Sullivan, and Susan Penzner.
"One of the worst things [about over development] is the unnecessary mortality of wildlife. There's a very casual attitude in this country and many jokes about road kill, for instance," Gornik told Hamptons.com. "Road kill is a tragedy and it shouldn't be a joke, in my opinion. So, when there's an organization like the wildlife center, that's so tirelessly dedicated (and on a shoestring budget) to helping any and all animals that are brought to them, they're really invaluable."
The evening will also include the chance to bid on artwork from iconic artists during the silent auction. Featured artists include Ross Bleckner
, Eric Fischl, April Gornik and many other esteemed artists. Auction items are available for online bidding at paddle8.com
The highlight of the night will be a meet and greet with some of the Center's more celebrated residents. Guests will have the opportunity to be photographed with "Meep," the Great Horned Owl; "Sonia," the Red Tailed Hawk; "Martino," an Eastern Screech Owl; and "Edgar Allen Crow" and "Rosebud," Virgina Opossums.
The Evelyn Alexander Wildlife Rescue Center is dedicated to the rehabilitation of wild animals impacted by encroachment of humans on their habitat. The not-for-profit serves the entirety of Long Island's East End. It is a grass roots organization that was founded by a small group of friends in 1997 and has grown to over 1700 members and supporters.
Tickets to Get Wild are $250.
