Long Island Marine Purification Initiative (LIMPIA) is bringing together a who's-who of the East End community, from surfers to socialites, on Saturday, July 18th to fight for a cause the affects everyone who lives in or visits the Hamptons. Join Host Committee members Fabiola Beracasa
, Amanda Hearst
, Jayma Cardoso
, Peter Brandt
, surfer Quincy Davis, Lauren Santo Domingo, and many others in support of LIMPIA's efforts to restore water quality in Montauk and on the East End.
"Nearly 3 years ago, I initiated a water testing program on the East End that, sadly, have shown us unambiguously that the water where we surf, swim and fish is very contaminated and needs our help" noted Luke Weil, LIMPIA Chairman of the Board of Directors.
From 5 to 8 p.m., attendees will enjoy an evening of cocktails and conversation at Gurney's Montauk Resort & Seawater Spa, while raising vital funds for the Long Island Marine Purification Initiative.
LIMPIA, which means "clean" in Spanish, aims to create awareness and inspire long lasting change to protect local bodies of water and improve East End water quality. Their goals include continued testing to determine unambiguously the degree as well as the sources of the contamination, fund the research and science that will address the likely causes of water contamination and yield a viable plan to solve the problem, fund public and government relations work to raise necessary and extremely lacking awareness on the issue, and bring together the necessary stakeholders, including local government, to reach agreement on a real and feasible solution to water contamination.
Tickets are $85 and available at www.eventbrite.com
Gurney's Montauk Resort & Seawater Spa is located at 290 Old Montauk Highway in Montauk. For more information, visit www.limpia.org
