The Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM) will host a benefit to support the prevention of Alzheimer’s at the Amagansett home of John Bradham on Saturday August 3, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Neal Barnard, the Physicians Committee President, will be joined by actor and memory expert Marilu Henner, professional triathlete Brendan Brazier, fashion designer Leane Mai-ly Hilgart, and actor Elaine Hendrix in hosting the event. Hilaria and Alec Baldwin are also serving on the host committee.
The event, entitled “Power Foods for the Brain” will feature wine and hors d’oeuvres that reflect Dr. Barnard’s research into the effects that a healthful diet can have on disease prevention. There will be wine from John Salley’s Vegan Vine and gourmet plant-based appetizers from Verite Catering like sweat pear mouse, truffled ricotta, and grilled oyster mushroom skewers. There will also be samples from the innovative Treeline Treenut Cheeses (a dairy-free cheese company that makes cheese-like products from nuts) and Cavi-art.
Alzheimer’s currently affects 5 million Americans, with rates expected to triple in the next 30 years, but Barnard’s research shows that simple diet changes can help shield the brain from memory loss, stroke, and other effects of Alzheimer’s. All proceeds from the event will support the work of the PCRM.
