This summer, the Wounded Warrior Project
will be hosting two events in the Hamptons on Saturday, July 20, 2013, in honor and support of veterans who have been wounded in service. The day will begin with a community ride and walk in Sag Harbor and Amagansett and conclude with the Rock the Farm
Party at the Stephen Talkhouse
The soldier ride
is the signature fundraising event for the Wounded Warrior Project. It first came to Long Island with a route between the Hamptons and Babylon in 2006, and is currently held in locations across the country. The program has even expanded internationally with soldier rides in Germany and Israel.
The event will also feature a tribute to Lance Corporal Jordan Haerter of Sag Harbor. Haerter was a U.S. Marine who was killed in action in 2008 in Iraq
while defending his comrades, and was posthumously awarded the Navy Cross for extraordinary heroism. The community ride will be followed by the Rock the Farm event at the Ocean View Farm on Montauk Highway in Amagansett.
Tickets to Rock the Farm will include an open bar, a barbecue, and live music provided by The English Beat.
, who has been with the Wounded Warriors since 2004 says the objective of the events are threefold, "we want to raise money, raise awareness, and just show the veterans a good time."
All proceeds raised by the two events will go directly to the Wounded Warriors Project
, where the money will be contributed to some of the organization's 18 different programs. These projects include initiatives aimed at improving wounded veterans' physical health and wellness, economic empowerment, and a combat stress recovery program.
