New York City - The Greater NYC Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure® is proud to announce the 2011 Tickled Pink!, benefit will be held on Friday, March 4 at Marquee, 289 10th Avenue, Manhattan, from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. This is the first year the event will be held at the noted nightclub. The evening will feature fashion, food, fun, and breast cancer awareness for mothers and daughters and anyone who shares a vision of a world without breast cancer. Teens for the Cure, a group of metropolitan area teens and pre-teens founded by breast cancer survivor
Iris Dankner and her daughter Nicole (Niki), help to put on the event. The celebrity emcees for the event are
Donny Deutsch, television host and Chairman of Deutsch, Inc., and
Sara Gore, host of LX New York and Open House NY on WNBC-TV.
For the past six years, Tickled Pink! has been recognized as a fixture in the social calendar of many families. The event includes shopping at special Tickled Pink! vendors, a large silent auction, a cocktail reception and program featuring the stories of local breast cancer survivors. The event's high point is a fashion show of the 2011 spring/summer
Diane von Furstenberg fashions modeled by professionals, as well as breast cancer survivors, their children and grandchildren. The hairstyles featured on the models and survivors will be created by noted stylist
Ted Gibson (What Not To Wear). Music for the evening will be courtesy of the hot turntables of DJ Kiss and there will be a special performance by rising music star
Matisse. Celebrity guests scheduled to appear at this year's event include a variety of Project Runway alums, such as
Daniel Feld,
Jack Mackenroth, and
Stella Zotis, designer
Nary Marivong (star of the documentary "Dressed"), among others.
"Tickled Pink! is one of my favorite events," said
Dara P. Richardson-Heron, MD, Chief Executive Officer of Komen Greater NYC. "Teens for the Cure empowers our youth to take a stand and get involved in breast cancer awareness. We are so proud of the hard work put in by these young women and their mothers on this evening."
"It is an honor to emcee Tickled Pink! this year," stated Deutsch. "I have been part of the event from the very beginning. As the father of three girls and the son of a breast cancer survivor, I know how important it is to get the next generation involved early. I fully support Susan G. Komen for the Cure's mission to educate everyone and to one day wipe out breast cancer as a life-threatening disease."
"I am so excited to be a part of this amazing event," said Gore. "It is my first year participating in Tickled Pink! and I am already so inspired by the commitment and dedication of these young women. Breast cancer touches all of us - one in eight women will be diagnosed with it in her lifetime - and learning about it at an early age is an important part of the fight."
All proceeds from the event will benefit Komen Greater NYC. Tickled Pink! has raised more than $750,000 since it was started six years ago, funds that Komen Greater NYC uses to increase grants to community-based breast health organizations in New York City, Long Island, Rockland and Westchester Counties.
"The 2011 Tickled Pink! looks like one of the best," said event organizer and co-founder of Teens for the Cure
Iris Dankner. "These young women continue to demonstrate the power of youth to make a difference. Breast cancer is a fight we can all win together."
Tickets are $175 and must be purchased in advance.
The Pink Diamond sponsors of this year's event are
Diane von Furstenberg and Exhale MindBodySpa. von Furstenberg has supported the event since its inception in 2005.
