Southampton - One of the really interesting aspects to the scene or happenings that go on during the 'season' in the Hamptons is what you'll discover if you just attend...great food, guests and friendly, yet focused competition all making for some wonderful events.

Looking for a great sunset, with a delicious meal and cocktails too? I headed to The Boathouse (in East Hampton) for the first time this summer, and this eatery offers all that and more! Enjoyed a just delectable meal (thanks Robin for the wonderful service and suggestions) of seafood - lobster, swordfish, and shrimp - accompanied by a view of beautiful boats, and a magical sunset, along with the attentiveness of the staff and lovely decor made for a great evening. The popular eatery has been drawing crowds all summer, and if you have eaten there even once, you know why, the seafood is fresh, portions are substantial and affordable, including an extensive appetizer and dessert list (the double banana split is divine), and with a terrific wine list you'll be sure to keep going back for more.

Grey Goose Blue Door Series launched their inaugural events this past weekend - on Thursday "Top Chef" Cynthia Sestito created a picnic with locally sourced foods for "Grey Goose Master Mixologists." On Friday night, "Behind the Blue Door: SPiN with the Pros Table Tennis Tournament" took place at a private home in East Hampton. A group of ping-pong social clubs from SPiN creators Frank Raharinosy, Andrew Gordon, Jonathan Bricklin, and Academy-Award winning actress Susan Sarandon, attracted a great crowd of fiercely friendly competitors who competed for two tickets to the U.S. Open. Under a beautiful summer sky, refreshing and tasty Grey Goose cocktails were the perfect match to keeps guests and players happy - loved the lemonade/Grey Goose drink. Additionally, a DJ kept the gathering pumped on great tunes, while the most diverse, extensive and mouth-watering passed hors d'oeuvres kept guests trailing after the lovely servers for more - great job Darlene. A fun evening with both female and male players showing off their table tennis moves, as well as an amusing pro, Wally Green, who opted to play using his cell phone rather than a paddle, all left guests departing with smiles, as well as Grey Goose cupcakes! On Saturday, "Grey Goose Entertainment" was held with a surprise performance by Jake Troth.

Bridgehampton Polo Club hosted the coveted Polo Challenge this weekend, where some of the world's greatest equestrian athletes are competing for one of the sport's most treasured prizes. Top Polo player Nacho Figueras played, and D. Williams PR made the scene to raise awareness for ArtStart, a youth organization in New York which provides art programs for disadvantaged youth.

Celebrity hotspot Southampton Social Club (256 Elm Street, Southampton, 631-287-1400), had guests including Beth Ostrosky (who threw out the game ball), Kelly Klein, Star Jones, and Saycon Fengbloh (who sang the national anthem), along with oodles of others staying cool while nibbling on bites and taking in the match. Proceeds from Bridgehampton Polo Club will go to benefit the Bridgehampton Childcare and Recreational Center.

Southampton Social Club is a reinvented Hampton staple brought to you by restaurateur Ian Duke and partner David Hilty. The restaurant offers East End foodies an innovative American menu by Executive Chef Matt Creason and celebrities who have been spotted this summer include journalist and talk show host Barbara Walters, model and TV personality Beth Ostrosky, author and talk show host Chelsea Handler, basketball player Dennis Rodman, Brit singer Estelle, models Jessica White and Lisalla Montenegro, E!'s The Spin Crowd Jonathan Cheban, celebrity chef and author Katie Lee, "Real Housewives of New York City" stars Kelly Bensimon and Ramona Singer, actor Kyle MacLachlan, "Gossip Girl's" Tika Sumpter and New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani, just to name a few!

Beautiful and interesting art works were on view at Gallery Valentine in East Hampton, where Tommy Mottola and Ryan Ross hosted a Saturday reception to benefit the Ross School Chamberlain/Fairweather Scholarship Fund for the Arts. Guests mingled over cocktails and hors d'oeuvres while the walls glowed with works from a myriad of famous artists, including Sam Francis, Willem de Kooning, Andy Warhol, Robert Indiana, Damien Hirst, and of course vibrant sculptures by John Chamberlain, among numerous others that should have kept many searching for their checkbooks. The large, comfortable and well appointed gallery space only enhanced the viewing and complemented the works of many of these well-known and admired names in the art world, including some of my favorites, Botero, Robert Rauschenberg and James Rosenquist - simply fabulous, and the exhibition was curated in a visually stunning array as a feast for the eyes.

Also on Saturday, Martinis For Mutts was held in Bridgehampton at the charming home of Ruth Katz, who hosted the evening along with Prince Lorenzo Borghese, Brad Boles from "The Real Housewives of New York City," Anna Rothschild, and Devorah Rose, in association with Social Life magazine. This third annual event brought dog lovers out for the benefit of Last Chance Animal Rescue (LCAR), founded by a dog's best friend, Whitney Knowlton.

With signature martinis, including the "Sherpardtini," as well as a design your own hot dog bar, guests and their canine companions danced to the upbeat music provided by a DJ, as well as the live performance of "Dreaming American" by vocalist Lauren Amaris. LCAR rescues homeless pets from kill shelters and finds them loving homes - with three mixed five month puppies (brothers) on hand to remind guests why they were there - and who were dressed in simply fabulous doggie couture, the evening's theme was all about the dog - with dog biscuit shaped fruits, dog-shaped topiary, and large dog biscuit shaped pool floats, as well as tasty tidbits from Elegant Affairs, and a Canadian camera crew filming for "Party Mamas" this was a doggone and whooftabluous good time for a most worthy cause.
