Southampton - The summer season certainly attracts artists of all kinds to the Hamptons, from actors and actresses to fine artists and performance artists, and of course those versed in the art of hosting, throwing and attending events.
This past weekend brought artists in all manner, shape and form to the East End, even with the insufferable hot weather, you can't keep a good party guest down!
Here are some events that caught our eye:
Hamptons - Envy - Envy - Hamptons - sounds like a fit as on Saturday, July 16, the Keszler Gallery, Southampton hosted a reception for
Russell Young unveiling his new show "American Envy II." Three hundred guests were in attendance to see the latest exhibition from this renowned British silkscreen artist. The show features Diamond Dust silkscreen images of important personalities and moments from the darker side of American history including
Jackie Kennedy,
Sharon Tate,
Elvis Presley,
Cassius Clay and events such as the Altamont and San Francisco riots.
Just in case you didn't hear the trampling of horse hooves over the weekend, Polo is back, and the
Urban Zen Foundation is proud to be involved with this season's Bridgehampton Polo Challenge at the Bridgehampton Polo Club, as 100 percent of any profits from the sales of products purchased at Polo will go to Hope, Help & Rebuild Haiti. Additionally, to highlight their commitment to holistic health, the Urban Zen Integrative Therapy Program will have trained integrative therapists (UZITs) present to share their knowledge on various eastern healing modalities, including meditation, yoga, essential oil therapy, and Reiki, which are all taught within the course of the 12-month UZIT Program. The Bridgehampton Polo Club will host a match every Saturday from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., and on August 27 there will be a Urban Zen fundraiser for
Southampton Hospital. So get your serenity on and enjoy watching these beautiful creatures - both the horses and attendees that is!

Surf's Up! as author and culinary expert
Katie Lee was in the Hamptons this weekend to host a cocktail party and book signing at Juicy Couture benefiting the Surfrider Foundation. The newly minted fiction writer and avid surfer signed her debut novel "Groundswell," offering up her surfing tips and chatting about her favorite looks from Juicy Couture's summer collection.
Hamptonites love to hug it out and
Emmanuelle Chriqui was as sweet as her "Entourage" alter ego Sloan at the
Hamptons Magazine party at
South Pointe Nightclub presented by Baume & Mercier. The party was packed but Chriqui didn't seem to mind people repeatedly bumping into her as she politely replied "that's ok." The "Entourage" beauty was posing playfully with friends making kissy faces for photogs even telling them to "make model faces" for the camera.
Juicy Couture donated proceeds from the event to the Surfrider Foundation, a non-profit grassroots organization dedicated to the protection and enjoyment of our world's oceans, waves and beaches. Founded in 1984 by a handful of visionary surfers in Malibu, California, the Surfrider Foundation now maintains over 50,000 members and 90 chapters worldwide (www.surfrider.org). The Juicy Couture East Hampton location not only offers the perfect beachy, day and night looks from the collection, it also debuts lifestyle options including art and literature as well as custom designed surfboards.

Fine art made the scene too with ARTBOOK + R/TURPAN (63 Main Street, Second Floor) in East Hampton (
Gregory R. Miller,
Nicole Klagsbrun and
D.A.P.) who held a special reception and book signing to celebrate the launch of the first monograph on
Mika Rottenberg, Video Works 2003-2010 (published by Gregory R. Miller & Co. and De Appel Arts Centre, Amsterdam). The ersatz factories and farms that appear in the video-installations of Rottenberg (born 1976) are tended by female laborers with unusual features. Uncommonly fat, tall, muscular or long-haired women work on strange, alchemical assembly lines to turn red fingernails into maraschino cherries, or to squeeze together blush, lettuce and rubber into a curious and magical product. Published on the occasion of Rottenberg's retrospective exhibition at de Appel Arts Centre, Amsterdam, this first publication on the acclaimed young artist presents a comprehensive overview of her work to date. It includes extensive sections on all of Rottenberg's major video installations, culminating with her latest, "Squeeze" (2010). Video stills, diagrams, drawings and previously unpublished source material are interwoven with essays investigating the work from political, philosophical and historical perspectives. Some upcoming events include
Ross Bleckner and
Frederic Tuten, as well as PERFORMA'S
RoseLee Goldberg.
Performance art hits the Hamptons as over 200 people gathered at RVS Fine Art on Jobs Lane to witness the "Nutcracker Gone Wrong!" - a live performance art piece by
Kevin Berlin for the July 23 Opening Reception of his solo show of new paintings "Cash & Carry." Featuring two classical ballerinas (
Sarah Renna and
Olivia Gonzales), a giant mouse (artist Berlin) and a large piece of cheese (courtesey of Waldbaums) everyone smiled.
