This January, Kent Animal Shelter has an easy New Year's resolution that everyone who has a four-legged friend at home should add to their list, if they haven't already done so. The Calverton-based shelter is once again presenting its "Happy Neuter Year" campaign, where for just $20, pet owners can have their male dogs and cats neutered.

"Neutering male pets is a simple surgery that reduces unwanted behaviors, like roaming, fighting, and urine marking territories," noted Pamela Green, Executive Director of Kent Animal Shelter.
Don't want a litter of newborns running around your home? Then make sure to schedule your appointment. "It also guarantees your dog or cat never fathers a litter of puppies or kittens," added Green. Spaying and neutering is also one of the most effective ways to lower the area's homeless pet population, and according to the American Veterinary Medical Association, the procedure is safe for puppies and kittens as young as eight to 10 weeks old.
Kent's "Happy Neuter Year" campaign, which is sponsored by PetSmart Charities, will offer $20 neuter surgeries for pets with parents who live on Long Island. To take advantage of the January special, pet owners must reference the "Happy Neuter Year" campaign when they schedule their appointment.
So, as Bob Barker always reminded "The Price Is Right" contestants and viewers, "don't forget to spay and neuter your pets."
