On Wednesday, June 17th at 2 p.m., the Central Pine Barrens Commission will discuss and possibly decide its verdict on the Kent Animal Shelter's rebuilding application. The discussion will take place during the Commission's monthly meeting at Riverhead Town Hall.

"The approval of the Central Pine Barrens Commission is a key and final authority on whether the Kent Animal Shelter may rebuild," said Pamela Green, Kent Animal Shelter's Executive Director, who is celebrating her 30 anniversary at the organization's helm. "The existing structures have reached a critical stage of deterioration to the extent that the shelter may have to cease to exist."

As of right now, the Calverton-based animal shelter has prepared building plans and gotten approvals from all agencies concerned, with the exception of the Central Pine Barrens Commission, whom they are still waiting to hear from.

Riverhead Town Hall is located at 200 Howell Avenue in Riverhead.
