Riverhead - Three of Long Island Aquarium's North American river otters born at the Aquarium in June 2010 to proud parents, PB&J, are leaving their birth home and moving to The Living Planet Aquarium, where they are expected to entertain visitors in Utah with their playful personalities for years to come.
"Long Island Aquarium and Exhibition Center will be transferring Cinnamon, Pepper, and Cocoa to another Aquarium that has a larger exhibit. We wish to commend our husbandry staff that worked countless hours and showed outstanding dedication in caring for these otters," says Atlantis Holdings General Manager,
Bryan DeLuca.
"We will definitely miss their energy and playfulness, but we know that all three brothers will be staying together and entertaining guests at another facility," says Senior Mammal Trainer,
Candyce Paparo. "We are sad to see them go, but know that our current exhibit is regulated for a certain number of animals. We also want to prevent breeding with relatives and to help maintain a healthy captive gene pool in aquarium facilities."
"We are thrilled that we had the rare opportunity to have them here as they each have served in creating greater awareness and we have learned much about this species in the process of caring for them. We wish them well in their new home," says Director of Mammal Training,
Ann Yaiullo.
Dedicated to cultivating public interest in the environment, conservation, and the enhancement of our planet and its creatures through adoption, education, research and recreation, The Living Planet Aquarium is one of Utah´s most unique and popular attractions with exhibits that feature sharks, rays, seahorses, jellyfish, as well as octopus, eels, starfish, amphibians, trout, and otherfreshwater species. This venue is a unique opportunity for the many landlocked Utahans, particularly children, who have not previously had the chance to interact with such creatures.
