For the Uncommon Art Residency Program’s third iteration, two North Fork properties will welcome emerging artists: Greenport’s Sound View and Harbor Front Inn. The three-month long program will boast an eclectic mix of creatives, ranging from musical theater writers to visual performers to photographers to designers.
“My inspiration behind the Uncommon Art Residency Program sparked from believing that artists would thrive being surrounded by nature on the North Fork in the winter,” explained Erik Warner, Co-founder of Eagle Point Hotel Partners – which owns both Sound View and Harbor Front Inn. “Getting artists out of their day-to-day studios, out to our property with a quarter-mile of walkable beach on a cold winter day when the air is clear, where the sea is rhythmically pulsing with a calming energy, is incredible.”
During their residency, artists will visit Greenport to immerse themselves in the North Fork village, living and working on the East End for a period of time. The residency will culminate with a presentation of the emerging artist’s creation, which the community will safely be able to admire – whether it be through a live-streamed performance, a socially-distanced workshop or a highlight of their medium. The program will feature open working sessions with participants and an exploration of the artists’ journeys.
“I have many friends who are artists, and my idea was to create a place for them to come to be inspired,” Warner added. “The North Fork in the winter is one of the most inspiring places on the east coast. It’s calm and quiet during this time of year, which is very powerful for the mind, in fact, transformational on many levels.”
This year’s Uncommon Art Residency Program will showcase Broadway Playwright Joe Iconis (February 5 through February 12), Illustrator and Fine Artist Juliet Schreckinger (February 15 through February 21), Artist Megan Lee (February 28 through March 7), Artist TJ Wisco (March 11 through March 17), Designer Ariel Adkins (March 15 through March 21), Multi-disciplinary Artist Mokshini (March 22 through March 29), Underwater Photographer Madison Muehl (April 4 through April 11), Designer & Printmaker Megan Lorenzo (April 16 through April 22), Photographer Lisa Kato (April 21 through April 27th), and Artist and Musician Sean Spellman (April TBD).
