Westhampton Beach - Perhaps best known as a Southern-fried blues band, Little Feat creates a sound that transcends boundaries, weaving in California rock, Dixie-inflected funk-boogie, rockabilly, folk and jazz. One of the most influential blues-rock bands, the wildly eclectic seven-piece band has been touring the world with sold-out shows for years. Little Feat will bring its rollicking jam band show to the Westhampton Beach Performing Arts Center on Saturday, Jan. 3 at 8 p.m.
Little Feat's music has been covered by
Bonnie Raitt, Taj Mahal, Van Halen,
Garth Brooks,
Jackson Browne, The Byrds, Robert Palmer, Linda Ronstadt and many others. Their unconventional signature of earthy, organic appeal and polished, first-rate musicianship wrapped around eclectic and memorable songs make them one of the hottest bands around for the music cognoscenti. Founding member and lead singer Lowell George defined the sound of 1960s slide guitar playing, and his song-writing was greatly admired. Two of the original founding members, keyboardist Bill Payne and drummer Richie Hayward, are still stalwarts of the band.
Little Feat made its name performing and jamming live, and had radio success with songs like "Dixie Chicken," "Feats Don't Fail Me Now," and "Fat Man in a Bathtub." The band inspires legions of loyal fans, from the young, embracing today's jam band scene, to veterans who have held the faith for decades.
