Nancy Carney Chosen As Superintendent Of Schools

Riverhead - On July 8, Nancy Carney was named Superintendent of Schools for the Riverhead Central School District at the RCSD Board of Education meeting. Carney has held administrative positions in the Riverhead Central School District from 2005 through 2010. Prior to her appointment as Superintendent of Schools, Carney was the Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction and Deputy Superintendent for the Riverhead Central School District. Before coming to Riverhead, Carney served as Principal of the Springs School in East Hampton.
Carney began her teaching career as a graduate assistant at Long Island University-C.W. Post Campus, where she taught courses in Technology, Education and Multi-Media. In 1994, she began her elementary teaching career in the Hampton Day School as a fifth and sixth grade teacher, and technology and division coordinator. She then taught at the Springs School as a fifth and sixth grade elementary teacher and a seventh and eighth grade technology teacher before becoming the building principal.
Carney graduated Summa Cum Laude from Long Island University where she received a BA in Elementary Education; she received an MS in Educational Technology from LIU-C.W. Post, her administrative certification and Professional Diploma (SDA) from SUNY-Stony Brook, and is currently a doctoral candidate at St. John's University, where she is conducting research on "21st Century Schools and Learning."
The Board of Education will celebrate Carney's appointment as Superintendent of Schools at a reception in her honor (with cake, coffee, punch and fruit salad) beginning at 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday, August 10, in the RHS Auditorium just prior to the Board of Education meeting to be held at 7 p.m. All are invited to attend.
