Rep. Bishop and South Fork Student Advisory Council members: L-to-R Kathleen Siller, Shelter Island; Soraya Matos, Southampton; Alexa Barrett, The Ross School; TB; Ryan Walker, Hampton Bays; Vanessa Rojano, Bridgehampton. (Rep. Bishop's Office)(/i>

Washington - On Monday, February 1, Congressman Bishop met with 24 Long Island high school students who are members of his Student Advisory Council. The Council is composed of outstanding high school juniors and seniors from schools throughout the First Congressional District.

The Council members meet with Congressman Bishop several times during the school year to discuss key national and international issues. The students give Congressman Bishop input on issues of importance to them and their peers, and the exchange of ideas has proven educational and informative for both the students and the Congressman.

The Council was established in 2002, and each year new members are nominated to replace graduating seniors. The students are nominated by their schools based upon leadership, academics and interest in government and politics.
